Abstract

A squeegee assembly for removing liquids from a floor. The squeegee assembly includes a frame that is movable in a direction of travel and that includes a base and opposed walls defining a channel extending along the width of the frame, and a squeegee blade partially disposed in the frame within the channel adjacent one of the walls. The squeegee blade has a first longitudinal edge positioned adjacent the base of the channel and a second longitudinal edge extending outward from the channel. The squeegee assembly also includes a jam member that is engageable with the frame within the channel so that the squeegee blade is positioned between the frame and the jam member to couple the squeegee blade to the frame.

a jam member engageable with the frame within the channel so that the squeegee blade is positioned between the frame and the jam member to couple the squeegee blade to the frame,

wherein the first wall of the opposed walls of the frame has a non-planar profile that engages and secures the squeegee blade.

2. The squeegee assembly of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the channel and the jam member is wedge-shaped.

3. The squeegee assembly of claim 1 , wherein the channel has a wedge-shaped cross-section, and wherein the jam member has a substantially matching wedge shape to secure the squeegee blade to the frame and to orient the squeegee blade relative to the floor.

4. The squeegee assembly of claim 3 , wherein the first wall of the frame has a stepped profile, and wherein the jam member has a stepped profile facing the stepped profile of the first wall to secure the squeegee blade against unintentional movement.

5. The squeegee assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a fastener attaching the jam member to the frame.

6. The squeegee assembly of claim 5 , further comprising a biasing member positioned between the jam member and the base to assist with removal of the jam member from the frame.

7. The squeegee assembly of claim 6 , wherein the biasing member is positioned around the fastener.

8. The squeegee assembly of claim 1 , wherein the squeegee blade is oriented at a non-right angle relative to the frame and the floor.

9. The squeegee assembly of claim 1 , wherein the squeegee blade is a first squeegee blade sandwiched between the frame and the jam member, the squeegee assembly further comprising a second squeegee blade sandwiched between the frame and the jam member opposite the first squeegee blade in the direction of travel.

10. The squeegee assembly of claim 9 , wherein each of the opposed walls has a stepped wedge-shaped profile.

11. The squeegee assembly of claim 10 , wherein the jam member has opposite surfaces each facing a respective wall of the opposed walls of the channel, and wherein both of the opposite surfaces of the jam member have a stepped profile to secure the first and second squeegee blades to the frame.

12. The squeegee assembly of claim 10 , wherein one of the squeegee blades is oriented at an obtuse angle relative to the base of the frame, and the other of the squeegee blades is oriented at an acute angle relative to the base as measured from the same reference point.

13. The squeegee assembly of claim 9 , wherein one of the squeegee blades is oriented at an obtuse angle relative to the base of the frame, and the other of the squeegee blades is oriented at an acute angle relative to the base as measured from the same reference point.

14. The squeegee assembly of claim 1 , wherein the squeegee blade is positioned between the jam member and the non-planar profile of the first wall to couple the squeegee blade to the frame.

15. The squeegee assembly of claim 1 , wherein the non-planar profile of the first wall includes a stepped profile.

16. A method of assembling a squeegee assembly for moving liquid from a floor, the squeegee assembly including a frame and adapted for use with a floor cleaning machine, the method comprising:

positioning a squeegee blade within a channel of the frame, the channel defined by a base and opposed walls;

engaging a jam member with the frame;

sandwiching the squeegee blade between the frame and the jam member to couple the squeegee blade to the frame and to orient the squeegee blade relative to the floor; and

deforming a portion of the squeegee blade sandwiched between the frame and the jam member against a non-planar surface of a wall of the opposed walls of the frame.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein sandwiching the squeegee blade includes wedging or pinching the squeegee blade between the frame and the jam member.

18. The method of claim 16 , further comprising orienting the squeegee blade at a non-right angle relative to the frame and the floor.

19. The method of claim 16 , wherein the squeegee blade is a first squeegee blade, the method further comprising:

positioning a second squeegee blade within the channel of the frame; and

sandwiching the second squeegee blade between the frame and the jam member to couple the second squeegee blade to the frame and to orient the second squeegee blade relative to the floor, wherein the jam member is located between the first and second squeegee blades.

20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising forcing the jam member into engagement with the first and second squeegee blades to trap the squeegee blades between the walls and the jam member.

21. The method of claim 16 , further comprising removably securing the jam member to the frame using a fastener.

22. The method of claim 21 , further comprising biasing the jam member away from the frame.

23. The method of claim 16 , further comprising deforming a portion of the second squeegee blade sandwiched between the frame and the jam member against a non-planar surface of an opposite wall of the opposed walls of the frame.

24. The method of claim 16 , further comprising biasing the jam member away from the frame.

25. A squeegee assembly for removing liquids from a floor, the squeegee assembly adapted for use with a floor cleaning machine, the squeegee assembly comprising:

a frame movable in a direction of travel and including a base and opposed walls defining a channel extending along the length of the frame;

a squeegee blade partially disposed in the frame within the channel adjacent a first wall of the opposed walls, the squeegee blade including a longitudinal edge extending outward from the channel;

a jam member engageable with the frame within the channel so that the squeegee blade is positioned between the frame and the jam member to couple the squeegee blade to the frame; and

a biasing member positioned between the jam member and the base to bias the jam member away from the frame,

wherein the first wall has a non-planar profile.

26. The squeegee assembly of claim 25 , wherein at least one of the channel and the jam member is wedge-shaped.

27. The squeegee assembly of claim 25 , wherein the channel has a wedge-shaped cross-section, and wherein the jam member has a substantially matching wedge shape to secure the squeegee blade to the frame and to orient the squeegee blade relative to the floor.

28. The squeegee assembly of claim 25 , wherein the non-planar profile of the first wall includes a stepped profile.

29. The squeegee assembly of claim 28 , wherein the jam member has a stepped profile facing the stepped profile of the first wall to secure the squeegee blade against unintentional movement.

30. The squeegee assembly of claim 25 , further comprising a fastener coupled to the jam member to attach the jam member to the frame.
