Abstract

Examples of systems and methods are provided for communicating events at a server to a remote client device. A method may comprise facilitating directing display output of an application when run on the server to the remote client device, receiving notification of the event at the server, determining an action, based on the event, to be performed by the remote client device on a remote view at the remote client device, wherein a portion of the display output is to be visible in the remote view, generating the message based on the determined action, wherein the message includes a command to perform the determined action, and facilitating directing the message to the remote client device. The action to be performed by the remote client device on the remote view comprises adjustment of the portion of the display output of the application that is to be visible in the remote view.

Claims (67)

1. A system for communicating with a remote client device, the system comprising:

a network interface;

a processor; and

a memory communicatively coupled to the processor, the memory comprising instructions operable, when executed by the processor, to cause the processor to:

direct display output of an application when run on the server to the remote client device, where a server graphics user interface (GUI) of the application is deactivated in the display output;

receive notification of an event, the event comprising a dialog box opening at the server in response to a user input at the remote client device;

determine an action, based on the event, to be performed by the remote client device on a remote view at the remote client device, the action comprising displaying the dialog box within the remote view at the remote client device, wherein a portion of the display output is to be visible in the remote view, and automatically, and without user input, adjusting the portion of the display output of the application that is to be visible in the remote view from an original view;

generate a message based on the determined action, wherein the message includes a command to perform the determined action and coordinates and dimensions of the dialog box;

transmit the message to the remote client device via the network interface;

receive notification of when the dialog box closes at the server;

generate a second message informing the remote client device that the dialog box has closed, the second message including instructions to return the portion of the display that is visible in the remote view to the original view; and

direct the second message to the remote client device.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the event comprises a window opening at the server in response to a user input at the remote client device;

the action comprises displaying the window within the remote view at the remote client device; and

the message comprises coordinates and dimensions of the window.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the event comprises a pointer on an object of the application at the server in response to a user input at the remote client device;

the action comprises displaying substantially the entire object within the remote view at the remote client device; and

the message comprises coordinates and dimensions of the object.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the object comprises a picture, an icon, an animation, or video.

5. A method performed at a server for providing, to a remote client device, of a message, the method comprising:

directing display output of an application when run on the server to the remote client device, where a server graphics user interface (GUI) of the application is deactivated in the display output;

receiving notification of an event at the server, the event comprising a dialog box opening at the server in response to a user input at the remote client device;

determining an action, based on the event, to be performed by the remote client device on a remote view at the remote client device, the action comprising displaying the dialog box within the remote view at the remote client device, wherein a portion of the display output is to be visible in the remote view, and automatically, and without user input, adjusting the portion of the display output of the application that is to be visible in the remote view from an original view;

generating the message based on the determined action, wherein the message includes a command to perform the determined action and coordinates and dimensions of the dialog box;

transmitting the message to the remote client device;

receiving notification of when the dialog box closes at the server;

generating a second message informing the remote client device that the dialog box has closed, the second message including instructions to return the portion of the display that is visible in the remote view to the original view; and

directing the second message to the remote client device.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein:

the event comprises a window opening at the server in response to a user input at the remote client device;

the action comprises displaying the window within the remote view at the remote client device; and

the message comprises coordinates and dimensions of the window.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein:

the event comprises a pointer on an object of the application at the server in response to a user input at the remote client device;

the action comprises displaying substantially the entire object within the remote view at the remote client device; and

the message comprises coordinates and dimensions of the object.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the object comprises a picture, an icon, an animation, or video.

9. A non-transitory machine-readable medium encoded with instructions for providing, to a remote client device, of a message, the instructions comprising code for:

directing display output of an application when run on the server to the remote client device, where a server graphics user interface (GUI) of the application is deactivated in the display output;

receiving notification of an event at the server, the event comprising a dialog box opening at the server in response to a user input at the remote client device;

determining an action, based on the event, to be performed by the remote client device on a remote view at the remote client device, the action comprising displaying the dialog box within the remote view at the remote client device, wherein a portion of the display output is to be visible in the remote view, and automatically, and without user input, adjusting the portion of the display output of the application that is to be visible in the remote view from an original view;

generating the message based on the determined action, wherein the message includes a command to perform the determined action and coordinates and dimensions of the dialog box; transmitting the message to the remote client device;

receiving notification of when the dialog box closes at the server;

generating a second message informing the remote client device that the dialog box has closed, the second message including instructions to return the portion of the display that is visible in the remote view to the original view; and

directing the second message to the remote client device.

10. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein:

the event comprises a window opening at the server in response to a user input at the remote client device;

the action comprises displaying the window within the remote view at the remote client device; and

the message comprises coordinates and dimensions of the window.

11. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein:

the event comprises a pointer on an object of the application at the server in response to a user input at the remote client device;

the action comprises displaying substantially the entire object within the remote view at the remote client device; and

the message comprises coordinates and dimensions of the object.

12. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the object comprises a picture, an icon, an animation, or video.

13. An apparatus for providing, to a remote client device, of a message related to an event at the server, comprising:

a processor; and

a memory communicatively coupled to the processor, the memory comprising instructions operable, when executed by the processor, to cause the processor to:

direct display output of an application when run on the server to the remote client device, where a server graphics user interface (GUI) of the application is deactivated in the display output;

receive notification of an event at the server, the event comprising a dialog box opening at the server in response to a user input at the remote client device;

determine an action, based on the event, to be performed by the remote client device on a remote view at the remote client device, the action comprising displaying the dialog box within the remote view at the remote client device, wherein a portion of the display output is to be visible in the remote view, and automatically, and without user input, adjusting the portion of the display output of the application that is to be visible in the remote view from an original view;

generate the message based on the determined action, wherein the message includes a command to perform the determined action and coordinates and dimensions of the dialog box;

transmit the message to the remote client device,

receive notification of when the dialog box closes at the server;

generate a second message informing the remote client device that the dialog box has closed, the second message including instructions to return the portion of the display that is visible in the remote view to the original view; and

direct the second message to the remote client device.
