Abstract

Disclosed are new approaches for scheduling workers at remote locations. Work assignments may be organized into shifts associated with one or more workers and one or more recipients. Tasks are associated with the shift and have an updatable status. Shifts may be replicated by cutting and pasting or by specifying a recurrence definition. The tasks associated with a shift may then be replicated. The status of tasks may be updated using a voice telephony system. The status of tasks may also be reported from a computer located on the recipient premise. Text and/or voice comments and the task status may be accessible by managers, clients, and concerned parties from a web portal accessible using a computing device, such as a tablet computer. Special classification activities may also be automatically specified according to rules and associated with shifts and replicated shifts. Methods for automatically associating providers with shifts are also disclosed.

Claims (44)

1 . A method for shift assignment, the method comprising:

receiving, by a server, request to schedule a shift;

selecting, by the server, a first subset of providers from a plurality of providers;

contacting, by the server, the first subset of providers;

receiving, by the server, responses from at least a portion of the first subset of providers;

ranking, by the server, the at least a portion of the first subset of providers;

selecting, by the server, an assigned provider from the at least a portion of the first subset of providers in according to the ranking of the at least a portion of the first subset of providers; and

scheduling, by the server, the assigned provider for the shift.

2 . The method of claim 1 , the method of claim 1 , where the request to schedule a shift includes a date; and

wherein selecting the first subset of providers from a plurality of providers includes selecting providers of the plurality of providers that are available on the date.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the first subset of providers from the plurality of providers further comprises filtering according to at least one qualification.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the first subset of providers from the plurality of providers further comprises:

selecting the first subset of providers at least in part according to a ranking of at least a portion of the plurality of providers according to suitability for the shift.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the request to schedule a shift includes a recipient; and

wherein selecting, by the server, the first subset of providers from the plurality of providers further comprises at least one of ranking and filtering according to prior experience with the recipient.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the request to schedule a shift includes first requirements and second requirements;

wherein selecting the first subset of providers from the plurality of providers further comprises performing filtering according to the first requirements and performing ranking according to the second requirements.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the first subset of providers from the plurality of providers further comprises ranking at least a portion of the plurality of providers according to proximity to a recipient associated with the request to schedule the shift.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein contacting the first subset of providers further comprises sending a text message to the first subset of providers; and

wherein receiving responses from at least a portion of the first subset of providers further comprises receiving a text message from the at least a portion of the first subset of providers.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein contacting the first subset of providers further comprises an automated voice telephone call to the first subset of providers; and

wherein receiving responses from at least a portion of the first subset of providers further comprises receiving one of a key press and a voice telephone response from the at least a portion of the first subset of providers.

10 . A method for shift assignment, the method comprising:

receiving, by a server, request to schedule a plurality of shifts;

iteratively performing, by the server, until each of the plurality of shifts is initially filled:

selecting one or more providers corresponding to each shift of the plurality of shifts according to a first ranking;

contacting the selected one or more providers corresponding to each shift; and

for each shift, if one or more positive responses are received from one or more responding providers of the selected one or more providers corresponding to the shift, selecting a selected provider from among the one or more responding providers according to a second ranking and initially filling the shift with the selected provider; and

defining, by the server, final assignments of the selected providers to the plurality of shifts in accordance with a third ranking.

11 . The method of claim 10 , selecting the one or more providers corresponding to each shift of the plurality of shifts according to a first ranking further comprises filtering according to qualifications.

12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the request to schedule a plurality of shifts includes a recipient for each shift of the plurality of shifts; and

wherein selecting the one or more providers corresponding to each shift of the plurality of shifts according to the first ranking further comprises at least one of ranking and filtering according to prior experience with the recipient for each shift.

13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein each shift of the plurality of shifts includes first requirements and second requirements;

wherein selecting groups of providers corresponding to each shift of the plurality of shifts according to the first ranking further comprises performing filtering according to the first requirements and performing ranking according to satisfaction of the second requirements.

14 . The method of claim 10 , wherein selecting groups of providers corresponding to each shift of the plurality of shifts according to the first ranking further comprises ranking according to proximity to a recipient associated with the request to schedule the shift.

15 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the first, second, and third rankings are identical.

16 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the first, second, and third rankings are different from one another.

17 . The method of claim 10 , wherein defining, by the server, final assignments of the selected providers to the plurality of shifts in accordance with the third ranking further comprises performing an optimization.

The method of claim 10 , wherein defining, by the server, final assignments of the selected providers to the plurality of shifts in accordance with the third ranking further comprises, for at least one shift of the plurality of shifts, in accordance with an optimization algorithm, substituting for the selected provider a different provider from one or more responding providers from a group of available providers corresponding to the at least one shift.

19 . The method of claim 10 , wherein contacting the groups of providers further comprises sending a text message to the groups of providers; and

wherein receiving one or more positive responses from one or more responding providers of a group of providers further comprises receiving a text message from the one or more responding providers.

20 . The method of claim 10 , wherein contacting the groups of providers further comprises voice telephone calls to the groups of providers; and

wherein receiving one or more positive responses from one or more responding providers of a group of providers further comprises receiving one of a key press and a voice telephone response from the one or more responding providers.

21 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising contacting, by the server, the selected providers to communicate final assignments of the selected providers to the plurality of shifts.
