Abstract

Certain example embodiments of this invention relate to articles including anticondensation coatings that are exposed to an external environment, and/or methods of making the same. In certain example embodiments, the anticondensation coatings may be survivable in an outside environment. The coatings also may have a sufficiently low sheet resistance and hemispherical emissivity such that the glass surface is more likely to retain heat from the interior area, thereby reducing (and sometimes completely eliminating) the presence condensation thereon. The articles of certain example embodiments may be, for example, skylights, vehicle windows or windshields, IG units, VIG units, refrigerator/freezer doors, and/or the like.

Claims (47)

1. A coated article comprising:

a coating supported by a glass substrate, wherein:

the coating is an anticondensation coating comprising the following thin-film layers moving away from the glass substrate:

a layer comprising an oxide of titanium,

a layer comprising silicon oxynitride,

a transparent conductive layer comprising indium tin oxide, and

a silicon-inclusive contact layer,

wherein the anticondensation coating is disposed on an exterior surface of the glass substrate such that the anticondensation coating is to be exposed to an external environment, and

the anticondensation coating has a hemispherical emissivity of less than 0.23 and a sheet resistance of less than 30 ohms/square.

2. The coated article of claim 1 , wherein the anticondensation coating further comprises a layer comprising zirconium oxide located over at least the silicon-inclusive contact layer.

3. An insulating glass (IG) unit, comprising a coated article according to claim 1 , and a second substrate in parallel spaced apart relation to the coated article.

4. The coated article of claim 1 , wherein the layer comprising indium tin oxide is located between and directly contacting the layer comprising silicon oxynitride and the silicon inclusive contact layer.

5. The coated article of claim 4 , wherein the silicon inclusive contact layer is thinner than is the layer comprising silicon oxynitride.

6. The coated article of claim 1 , wherein the silicon inclusive contact layer is thinner than is the layer comprising silicon oxynitride.

7. A coated article comprising:

a coating supported by a glass substrate, wherein:

the coating is an anticondensation coating comprising the following thin-film layers moving away from the glass substrate:

a layer comprising silicon oxynitride,

a transparent conductive layer comprising indium tin oxide,

a silicon-inclusive contact layer,

a layer comprising zirconium oxide located over at least the silicon-inclusive contact layer,

wherein the anticondensation coating is disposed on an exterior surface of the glass substrate such that the anticondensation coating is to be exposed to an external environment, and

the anticondensation coating has a hemispherical emissivity of less than 0.23 and a sheet resistance of less than 30 ohms/square.

8. The coated article of claim 7 , wherein the silicon-inclusive contact layer comprises silicon nitride.

9. The coated article of claim 7 , wherein the anticondensation coating further comprises a layer comprising silicon nitride between the glass substrate and the layer comprising silicon oxynitride.

10. The coated article of claim 7 , wherein a low emissivity coating including a layer comprising silver is supported by the glass substrate on a surface thereof opposite the anticondensation coating.

11. An insulating glass (IG) unit, comprising a coated article according to claim 7 , and a second substrate in parallel spaced apart relation to the coated article.

12. The coated article of claim 7 , wherein the layer comprising indium tin oxide is located between and directly contacting the layer comprising silicon oxynitride and the silicon inclusive contact layer.

13. The coated article of claim 12 , wherein the silicon inclusive contact layer is thinner than is the layer comprising silicon oxynitride.

14. The coated article of claim 7 , wherein the silicon inclusive contact layer is thinner than is the layer comprising silicon oxynitride.

15. A coated article comprising:

a coating supported by a glass substrate, wherein:

the coating is an anticondensation coating comprising the following thin-film layers moving away from the glass substrate:

a layer comprising silicon oxynitride,

a transparent conductive layer comprising indium tin oxide,

a silicon-inclusive contact layer, and

a layer comprising metal oxide,

wherein the silicon inclusive contact layer is thinner than is the layer comprising silicon oxynitride;

wherein the silicon inclusive contact layer is thinner than is the layer comprising silicon oxynitride;

wherein the layer comprising metal oxide is thinner than are both the silicon inclusive contact layer and the layer comprising silicon oxynitride;

wherein the anticondensation coating is disposed on an exterior surface of the glass substrate such that the anticondensation coating is to be exposed to an external environment, and

the anticondensation coating has a hemispherical emissivity of less than 0.23 and a sheet resistance of less than 30 ohms/square.

16. The coated article of claim 15 , wherein the silicon-inclusive contact layer comprises silicon nitride.

17. The coated article of claim 15 , wherein the metal oxide comprises zirconium oxide.

18. The coated article of claim 15 , wherein a low emissivity coating including a layer comprising silver is supported by the glass substrate on a surface thereof opposite the anticondensation coating.

19. An insulating glass (IG) unit, comprising a coated article according to claim 15 , and a second substrate in parallel spaced apart relation to the coated article.

20. The coated article of claim 15 , wherein the layer comprising indium tin oxide is located between and directly contacting the layer comprising silicon oxynitride and the silicon inclusive contact layer.
