Abstract

A mobile station comprises a wireless transceiver coupled to a processor. The mobile station is configured to receive at the transceiver a control channel transmission on a first frequency from a first cell wherein the control channel transmission is addressed to a unique identifier of the mobile station. The processor is configured to determine that the control channel transmission indicates resources for a data channel. The mobile station is configured to receive at the transceiver a data channel transmission in resources indicated in the control channel transmission, the data channel transmission comprising a first message indicating a first resource for an uplink transmission, wherein the mobile station is configured to transmit, to a second cell on an uplink frequency, a second message using the first resource.

Claims (33)

1. A mobile station comprising:

a wireless transceiver;

a processor coupled to the transceiver;

the mobile station configured to receive at the transceiver a control channel transmission on a first frequency from a first serving cell, the control channel transmission addressed to a unique identifier of the mobile station;

the processor configured to determine that the control channel transmission indicates resources for a data channel,

the mobile station configured to receive at the transceiver a data channel transmission in resources indicated in the control channel transmission, the data channel transmission comprising a first message, the first message indicating a first resource for an uplink transmission;

the mobile station configured to transmit, to a second serving cell on an uplink frequency, a second message using the first resource.

2. The mobile station according to claim 1 , the mobile station configured to receive at the transceiver the control channel transmission addressed to a unique identifier of the mobile station in response to a random access channel transmission from the mobile station.

3. The mobile station according to claim 1 , the processor configured to apply a timing advance, obtained from information in the first message, to the transmissions on the uplink frequency.

4. The mobile station according to claim 1 , the processor configured to determine that a response to the second message is not received and to disable the timing advance applied to the transmissions on the uplink frequency.

5. A method in a mobile station, the method comprising:

receiving, at the mobile station, a control channel transmission on a first frequency from a first serving cell, the control channel transmission addressed to a unique identifier of the mobile station;

determining that the control channel transmission indicates resources for a data channel;

receiving, at the mobile station, a data channel transmission in resources indicated in the control channel transmission, the data channel transmission comprising a first message, the first message indicating a first resource for an uplink transmission;

transmitting, to a second serving cell, a second message using the first resource.

6. The method according to claim 5 further comprising receiving the control channel transmission addressed to a unique identifier of the mobile station in response to a random access channel transmission from the mobile station.

7. The method according to claim 5 further comprising:

applying a timing advance, obtained from information in the first message, to the transmissions on the uplink frequency.

8. The method according to claim 7 further comprising:

determining that a response to the second message is not received; and

disabling the timing advance applied to the transmissions on the uplink frequency.

9. A method in a mobile station implementing a medium access control (MAC) protocol layer and physical layer, the method comprising:

receiving, at the physical layer, a first message addressed to a unique identifier of the mobile station, the first message comprising a MAC protocol layer packet;

decoding from the MAC protocol layer packet an uplink resource allocation;

constructing, by the MAC protocol layer, a second message for transmission by the physical layer; and

submitting, by the MAC protocol layer, the second message to the physical layer, indicating the frequency on which the second message is to be transmitted.

10. A mobile station implementing a medium access control (MAC) protocol layer and physical layer, the mobile station comprising:

a wireless transceiver;

a processor coupled to the transceiver;

the mobile station configured to receive, at the physical layer, a first message addressed to a unique identifier of the mobile station, the first message comprising a MAC protocol layer packet;

the processor configured to decode from the MAC protocol layer packet an uplink resource allocation,

the processor configured to construct, by the MAC protocol layer, a second message for transmission by the physical layer; and

the processor configured to submit, by the MAC protocol layer, the second message to the physical layer, indicating the frequency on which the second message is to be transmitted.
