a second screen assembly including a second screen having a second active display area and a second housing having a rear surface, and a side surface extending between a periphery of the second screen and the rear surface of the second housing; and
a hinge connected to the first and second screen assemblies, wherein the hinge has a range of motion of more than 180 degrees so that the device is foldable between an open position in which a first plane of the first screen is transverse to a second plane of the second screen and a closed position in which the first and second screens are oriented substantially back-to-back in adjacent planes.
2 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the hinge is configured to enable a distance between the first and second active display areas, when the first and second screens are in the fully opened position, to be no more than about 10 mm
3 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the distance is no more than about 5 mm.
4 . The device of claim 3 , wherein the distance is no more than about 1 mm.
5 . The device of claim 4 , wherein the distance is no more than about 0.5 mm.
6 . The device of claim 5 , wherein the distance is no more than about 0.25 mm.
7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the side surface of the first housing includes a first opening to engage the hinge so that the first screen assembly is rotatable about a first pivot axis, wherein the side surface of the second screen assembly includes a second opening to engage the hinge so that the second screen assembly is rotatable about a second pivot axis, and wherein the hinge is at least partially disposed within the openings of the first and second screen assemblies.
8 . The device of claim 7 , wherein the hinge comprises an elongate hub, wherein the hub includes an internal passage extending between the openings of the first and second screens assemblies.
9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second planes define an angle δ relative to a common plane that is greater than 0 but no more than about 10 degrees.
10 . A method, comprising:
providing a communication device comprising:
a first screen assembly including a first screen having a first active display area and a first housing having a rear surface, and a side surface extending between a periphery of the first screen and the rear surface of the first housing;
a second screen assembly including a second screen having a second active display area and a second housing having a rear surface, and a side surface extending between a periphery of the second screen and the rear surface of the second housing; and
a hinge connected to the first and second screen assemblies;
moving the hinge to a fully closed position in which the rear surfaces of the first and second housings are in contact with one another and the first and second screens face outwardly in opposing directions; and
from the fully closed position, moving the hinge to a fully opened position, wherein, when in the fully opened position, the hinge has a range of motion of more than 180 degrees.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the hinge is configured to enable a distance between the first and second active display areas to be no more than about 10 mm.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the distance is no more than about 5 mm.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the distance is no more than about 1 mm.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the distance is no more than about 0.5 mm.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the distance is no more than about 0.25 mm.
16 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the side surface of the first housing includes a first opening to engage the hinge so that the first screen assembly is rotatable about a first pivot axis, wherein the side surface of the second screen assembly includes a second opening to engage the hinge so that the second screen assembly is rotatable about a second pivot axis, and wherein the hinge is at least partially disposed within the openings of the first and second screen assemblies.
17 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the hinge comprises an elongate hub, wherein the hub includes an internal passage extending between the openings of the first and second screens assemblies.
18 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the device is foldable between an open position in which a first plane of the first screen is transverse to a second plane of the second screen and a closed position in which the first and second screens are oriented substantially back-to-back in adjacent planes.
19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein each of the first and second planes defines an angle δ relative to a common plane that is greater than 0 but no more than about 10 degrees.
20 . A handheld computing device, comprising:
a first screen assembly including a first screen having a first active display area and a first housing having a rear surface, and a side surface extending between a periphery of the first screen and the rear surface of the first housing;
