Abstract

Disclosed herein is a system and method for extending a breakout in a broadcasting environment. In one example, a method involves: (i) receiving a traffic log including traffic log entries, each corresponding to a VC and a start time; (ii) operating in a traffic log mode comprising; (iii) receiving a breakout-mode request; (iv) responsive to receiving the breakout-mode request, (a) terminating operation of the traffic log mode, (b) generating a simulation log, and (c) operating in a first breakout mode; (v) receiving a breakout-extension request; (vi) responsive to receiving the breakout-extension request, terminating operation of the first breakout-mode, and operating in a custom log mode; and (vii) responsive to all the VCs indicated in the generated custom log being sent to the air-chain system, terminating operation of the custom log mode, and operating in a second breakout mode.

Claims (43)

1. A method for sending video to an air-chain system for television broadcast, the method comprising:

receiving from a traffic system, a traffic log including traffic log entries, each corresponding to a video component (VC) and a start time;

operating in a traffic log mode comprising: traversing the traffic log entries according to the corresponding start times and a running time, and sending the VCs corresponding to the traversed traffic log entries to the air-chain system in sequence;

receiving a breakout-mode request;

responsive to receiving the breakout-mode request, (i) terminating operation of the traffic log mode, (ii) generating a simulation log that includes simulation entries, and that is a copy of at least a portion of the traffic log, and (iii) operating in a first breakout mode comprising: (a) sending video received from a breakout source to the air-chain system, (b) traversing the simulation entries according to the corresponding start times and a current time, (c) generating a missed list that indicates the VCs corresponding to the traversed simulation entries, and (d) generating a custom log that indicates at least a portion of the VCs in the generated missed list;

receiving a breakout-extension request;

responsive to receiving the breakout-extension request, terminating operation of the first breakout-mode, and operating in a custom log mode comprising traversing and sending the VCs indicated in the generated custom log to the air-chain system in sequence; and

responsive to all the VCs indicated in the generated custom log being sent to the air-chain system, terminating operation of the custom log mode, and operating in a second breakout mode comprising sending video received from the breakout source to the air-chain system.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the generated missed list is a first generated missed list,

wherein the generated custom log is a first generated custom log, and

wherein operating in the second breakout mode further comprises: (a) traversing the simulation entries according to the corresponding start times and the time, (c) generating a second missed list that indicates the VCs corresponding to the traversed simulation entries in the second breakout mode, and (d) generating a second custom log that indicates at least a portion of the VCs in the second generated missed list.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the breakout-mode request comprises receiving the breakout mode request via a user interface, and wherein receiving the breakout-extension request comprises receiving the breakout-extension request via the user interface.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

displaying the missed list on a user interface.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising

receiving custom VC selections via the user interface;

wherein generating the custom log comprises generating the custom log using the received custom VC selections.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the custom log indicates each VC in the generated missed list.

7. A method for sending video to an air-chain system for television broadcast, the method comprising:

receiving from a traffic system, a traffic log including traffic log entries, each corresponding to a video component (VC) and a start time;

operating in a traffic log mode comprising: traversing the traffic log entries according to the corresponding start times and a running time, and sending the VCs corresponding to the traversed traffic log entries to an air-chain system in sequence;

receiving a breakout-mode request;

responsive to receiving the breakout-mode request, (i) terminating operation of the traffic log mode, (ii) generating a simulation log that includes simulation entries, and that is a copy of at least a portion of the traffic log, and (iii) operating in a first breakout mode comprising: (a) sending video received from a first breakout source to the air-chain system, (b) traversing the simulation entries according to the corresponding start times and a current time, (c) generating a missed list that indicates the VCs corresponding to the traversed simulation entries, and (d) generating a custom log that indicates at least a portion of the VCs in the generated missed list;

receiving a breakout-extension request;

responsive to receiving the breakout-extension request, terminating operation of the first breakout-mode, and operating in a custom log mode comprising traversing and sending the VCs indicated in the generated custom log to the air-chain system in sequence; and

responsive to all the VCs indicated in the generated custom log being sent to the air-chain system, terminating operation of the custom log mode, and operating in a second breakout mode comprising sending video received from a second breakout source to the air-chain system, wherein the first breakout source is different from the second breakout source.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the generated missed list is a first generated missed list,

wherein the generated custom log is a first generated custom log, and

wherein operating in the second breakout mode further comprises: (a) traversing the simulation entries according to the corresponding start times and the time, (b) generating a second missed list that indicates the VCs corresponding to the traversed simulation entries in the second breakout mode, and (c) generating a second custom log that indicates at least a portion of the VCs in the second generated missed list.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein receiving the breakout-mode request comprises receiving the breakout mode request via a user interface, and wherein receiving the breakout-extension request comprises receiving the breakout-extension request via the user interface.

10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

displaying the missed list on a user interface.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising

receiving custom VC selections via the user interface;

wherein generating the custom log comprises generating the custom log using the received custom VC selections.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein the custom log indicates each VC in the generated missed list.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing program instructions, that when executed, cause performance of functions for sending video to an air-chain system for television broadcast, the functions comprising:

receiving from a traffic system, a traffic log including traffic log entries, each corresponding to a video component (VC) and a start time;

operating in a traffic log mode comprising: traversing the traffic log entries according to the corresponding start times and a running time, and sending the VCs corresponding to the traversed traffic log entries to the air-chain system in sequence;
