Abstract

To provide a display device that is capable of achieving a sufficient confidentiality keeping performance for directions other than a specific direction without a troublesome work such as wearing special eyeglasses. The display device includes: a plurality of display units each having a main pixel for displaying a first image and a sub-pixel for displaying a second image arranged in matrix in a first direction and a second direction; and an optical member which distributes light emitted from the plurality of display units towards different directions along the first direction. The display unit has a first display area in which the main pixel and the sub-pixel are formed in the second direction, and a second display area in which only the main pixel is formed.

Claims (88)

1. A display device, comprising:

a display part in which a plurality of display units each containing a main pixel for displaying a first image and a sub-pixel for displaying a second image are arranged in matrix in a first direction and a second direction that crosses with the first direction; and

a lenticular lens provided by being corresponded to each of the display units for distributing light emitted from the display units to different directions at least along the first direction,

wherein a value of a pitch of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially the same as a value of a pitch of the lenticular lens in the first direction,

wherein an end of each of the display units is substantially aligned with a lens end of the lenticular lens in the first direction,

wherein the display unit has a structure in which the main pixel has a flat T-letter shape, a lateral-bar part of the flat T-letter shape is parallel to the first direction, and the sub-pixel is disposed, respectively, on both sides of longitudinal-bar part of the flat T-letter shape,

wherein a display area of the display unit includes a first display area in which the main pixel and the sub-pixel are formed in the second direction, and

a second display area in which only the main pixel is formed in the second direction, and

wherein the display unit includes the first display area, the second display area and the first display area in that order from an end in parallel to the first direction.

2. An electronic appliance comprising the display device claimed in claim 1 .

3. A display device, comprising:

a display part in which a plurality of display units each containing a main pixel for displaying a first image and a sub-pixel for displaying a second image are arranged in matrix in a first direction and a second direction that crosses with the first direction; and

a lenticular lens provided by being corresponded to each of the display units for distributing light emitted from the display units to different directions at least along the first direction,

wherein a value of a pitch of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially the same as a value of a pitch of the lenticular lens in the first direction,

wherein an end of each of the display units is substantially aligned with a lens end of the lenticular lens in the first direction,

wherein the display unit has a structure in which the main pixel has a flat “Π” shape, a lateral-bar part of the flat “Π” shape is parallel to the first direction, and the sub-pixel is disposed respectively on both sides of longitudinal-bar parts of the flat “Π” shape,

wherein a display area of the display unit includes a first display area in which the main pixel and the sub-pixel are formed in the second direction, and

a second display area in which only the main pixel is formed in the second direction,

wherein the display unit includes the first display area, the second display area, the first display area, the second display area, and the first display area in that order from an end in parallel to the first direction, and

wherein a pitch of an enlarged projection image of the longitudinal-bar part of the “Π” shaped display area is set by corresponding to a distance between both eyes of an observer.

4. An electronic appliance comprising the display device claimed in claim 3 .

5. A display device, comprising:

a display part in which a plurality of display units each containing a main pixel for displaying a first image and a sub-pixel for displaying a second image are arranged in matrix in a first direction and a second direction that crosses with the first direction; and

a lenticular lens provided by being corresponded to each of the display units for distributing light omitted from the display units to different directions at least along the first direction,

wherein a value of a pitch of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially the same as a value of a pitch of the lenticular lens in the first direction,

wherein an end of each of the display units is substantially aligned with a lens end of the lenticular lens in the first direction,

wherein the display unit has a structure in which the main pixel has a flat T-letter shape, a lateral-bar part of the flat T -letter shape is parallel to the first direction,

wherein a display area of the display unit includes a first display area in which the main pixel and the sub-pixel are formed in the second direction, and

a second display area in which only the main pixel is formed in the second direction,

wherein the display unit includes the first display area, the second display area, and the first display area in that order from an end in parallel to the first direction, and

wherein a longitudinal-bar part of the flat T-letter shape is tilted from the second direction, the sub-pixel is disposed, respectively, on both sides of the longitudinal-bar part of the flat T-letter shape, and a boundary between the first display range and the second display range is gradually changed through having sides of the sub-pixel neighboring the longitudinal-bar part is tilted from the second direction.

6. An electronic appliance comprising the display device claimed in claim 5 .

7. A display device, comprising:

a display part in which a plurality of display units each containing a main pixel for displaying a first image and a sub-pixel for displaying a second image are arranged in matrix in a first direction and a second direction that crosses with the first direction; and

a lenticular lens provided by being corresponded to each of the display units for distributing light emitted from the display units to different directions at least along the first direction,

wherein a value of a pitch of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially the same as a value of a pitch of the lenticular lens in the first direction,

wherein an end of each of the display units is substantially aligned with a lens end of the lenticular lens in the first direction,

wherein a display area of the display unit includes

a first display area in which the main pixel and the sub-pixel are formed in the second direction, and

a second display area in which only the main pixel is formed in the second direction,

wherein the display area of the display unit includes the first display area, the second display area, and the first display area in that order in the first direction,

wherein at one side of the first display area near the second display area, a boundary between the main pixel and the sub-pixel has meandering shape, and the main pixel from which the longitudinal-bar part is eliminated and the sub-pixel are mixed in a fine manner, and

wherein the display unit includes the first display area, the second display area, and the first display area in that order from an end in parallel to the first direction.

8. An electronic appliance comprising the display device claimed in claim 7 .

9. A display device, comprising:

a display part in which a plurality of display units each containing a main pixel for displaying a first image and a sub-pixel for displaying a second image are arranged in matrix in a first direction and a second direction that crosses with the first direction; and

a parallax barrier provided by being corresponded to each of the display units for distributing light emitted from the display units to different directions at least along the first direction,

wherein a value of a pitch of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially the same as a value of an arranging pitch of a slit of the parallax barrier in the first direction,

wherein a center part of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially aligned with a center part of the slit in the first direction,

wherein the display unit has a structure in which the main pixel has a flat T-letter shape, a lateral-bar part of the flat T-letter shape is parallel to the first direction, and the sub-pixel is disposed, respectively, on both sides of longitudinal-bar part of the flat T-letter shape,

wherein a display area of the display unit includes a first display area in which the main pixel and the sub-pixel are formed in the second direction, and

a second display area in which only the main pixel is formed in the second direction, and

wherein the display unit includes the first display area, the second display area, and the first display area in that order from an end in parallel to the first direction.

10. An electronic appliance comprising the display device claimed in claim 9 .

11. A display device, comprising:

a display part in which a plurality of display units each containing a main pixel for displaying a first image and a sub-pixel for displaying a second image are arranged in matrix in a first direction and a second direction that crosses with the first direction; and

a parallax barrier provided by being corresponded to each of the display units for distributing light emitted from the display units to different directions at least along the first direction,

wherein a value of a pitch of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially the same as a value of all arranging pitch of a slit of the parallax barrier in the first direction,

wherein a center part of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially aligned with a center part of the slit in the first direction,

wherein the display unit has a structure in which the main pixel has a flat “Π” shape, a lateral-bar part of the flat “Π” shape is parallel to the first direction, and the sub-pixel is disposed respectively on both sides of longitudinal bar parts of the flat “Π” shape,

wherein a display area of the display unit includes a first display area in which the main pixel and the sub-pixel are formed in the second direction, and

a second display area in which only the main pixel is formed in the second direction,

wherein the display unit includes the first display area, the second display area, the first display area, the second display area, and the first display area in that order from an end in parallel to the first direction, and

wherein a pitch of an enlarged projection image of the longitudinal-bar part of the “Π” shaped display area is set by corresponding to a distance between both eyes of an observer.

12. An electronic appliance comprising the display device claimed in claim 10 .

13. A display device, comprising:

a display part in which a plurality of display units each containing a main pixel for displaying a first image and a sub-pixel for displaying a second image are arranged in matrix in a first direction and a second direction that crosses with the first direction; and

a parallax barrier provided by being corresponded to each of the display units for distributing light emitted from the display units to different directions at least along the first direction,

wherein a value of a pitch of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially the same as a value of an arranging pitch of a slit of the parallax barrier in the first direction,

wherein a center part of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially aligned with a center part of the slit in the first direction,

wherein the display unit has a structure in which the main pixel has a flat T-letter shape, a lateral-bar part of the flat T-letter shape is parallel to the first direction,

wherein a display area of the display unit includes a first display area in which the main pixel and the sub-pixel are formed in the second direction, and

a second display area in which only the main pixel is formed in the second direction,

wherein the display unit includes the first display area, the second display area, and the first display area in that order from an end in parallel to the first direction, and

wherein a longitudinal-bar part of the flat T-letter shape is tilted from the second direction, the sub-pixel is disposed, respectively, on both sides of the longitudinal-bar part of the flat T-letter shape, and a boundary between a first display range and a second display range is gradually changed through having sides of the sub-pixel neighboring the longitudinal-bar part tilted from the second direction.

14. An electronic appliance comprising the display device claimed in claim 13 .

15. A display device, comprising:

a display part in which a plurality of display units each containing a main pixel for displaying a first image and a sub-pixel for displaying a second image are arranged in matrix in a first direction and a second direction that crosses with the first direction; and

a parallax barrier provided by being corresponded to each of the display units for distributing light emitted from the display units to different directions at least along the first direction,

wherein a value of a pitch of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially the same as a value of an arranging pitch of a slit of the parallax barrier in the first direction,

wherein a center part of each of the display units in the first direction is substantially aligned with a center part of the slit in the first direction,

wherein a display area of the display unit includes

a first display area in which the main pixel and the sub-pixel are formed in the second direction, and

a second display area in which only the main pixel is formed in the second direction,

wherein the display area of the display unit includes the first display area, the second display area, and the first display area in that order in the first direction,

wherein, at one side of the first display area near the second display area, a boundary between the main pixel and the sub-pixel has a meandering shape, and the main pixel from which the longitudinal-bar part is eliminated and the sub-pixel are mixed in a fine manner, and

wherein the display unit includes the first display area, the second display area, and the first display area in that order from an end in parallel to the first direction.

16. An electronic appliance comprising the display device claimed in claim 15 .
