Abstract

Particular embodiments may retrieve information associated with one or more nodes of a social graph from one or more data stores. A node may comprise a user node or a concept node. Each node may be connected by edges to other nodes of a social graph. A first user may be associated with a first user node of the social graph. Particular embodiments may detect that the first user is entering an input term. Predictive typeahead results may be provided as the first user enters the input term. The predictive typeahead results may be based on the input term. Each predictive typeahead result may include at least one image. Each predictive typeahead result may correspond to at least one node of the social graph.

Claims (49)

1. A method comprising:

retrieving, from one or more data stores, information associated with one or more nodes, a node comprising a user node or a concept node, each node being connected by edges to other nodes of a social graph;

detecting that a first user is entering an input term, the first user being associated with a first user node of the social graph;

providing predictive typeahead results as the first user enters the input term, the predictive typeahead results being based on the input term, each predictive typeahead result corresponding to at least one node of the social graph, each predictive typeahead result including at least one image associated with one of the at least one node.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein providing a predictive typeahead result comprises matching a string of characters included in the input term to one or more strings of characters associated with one or more nodes in the social graph.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein matching the string of characters comprises accessing a database index based on the one or more strings of characters associated with the nodes.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

at least one node in the social graph comprises a second user node associated with a second user; and

providing a predictive typeahead result corresponding to the at least one node comprises providing, based on a measure of affinity between the first user and the second user corresponding to the second user node, a predictive typeahead result corresponding to the second user node.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

at least one node in the social graph comprises a concept node associated with a concept; and

providing a predictive typeahead result corresponding to the at least one node comprises providing, based on a measure of affinity between the first user and the concept corresponding to the concept node, a predictive typeahead result corresponding to the concept node.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

at least one node in the social graph comprises a second user node associated with a second user, the social graph identifying a relationship between the first user and the second user;

at least one node in the social graph comprises a concept node associated with a concept; and

providing a predictive typeahead result corresponding to the at least one node comprises providing, based on a measure of affinity between the second user and the concept, a predictive typeahead result corresponding to the concept node.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising;

by a computing device, providing a description for the image.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein providing a description for the image comprises one or more of:

responding to a mouse pointer placed over the image,

showing a popup window, or

showing text within the image.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein a predictive typeahead result is associated with a hyperlink to a web page.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the hyperlink is related to a profile page for a node corresponding to the predictive typeahead result.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the hyperlink is related to a third-party website.

12. One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying software that is operable when executed to:

by a computing device, retrieve, from one or more data stores, information associated with one or more nodes, a node comprising a user node or a concept node, each node being connected by edges to other nodes of a social graph;

by a computing device, detect that a first user is entering an input term, the first user being associated with a first user node of the social graph;

by a computing device, provide predictive typeahead results as the first user enters the input term, the predictive typeahead results being based on the input term, each predictive typeahead result corresponding to at least one node of the social graph, each predictive typeahead result including at least one image associated with one of the at least one node.

The media of claim 12 , wherein the software that is operable when executed to provide a predictive typeahead result comprises software that is operable when executed to match a string of characters included in the input term to one or more strings of characters associated with one or more nodes in the social graph.

14. The media of claim 13 , wherein the software is further operable when executed to access a database index based on the one or more strings of characters associated with the nodes.

15. The media of claim 12 , wherein a predictive typeahead result is associated with a reference to a web resource, the web resource comprising a profile page for a node corresponding to the predictive typeahead result or a third-party website.

16. A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

a memory coupled to the processors comprising instructions executable by the processors, the processors operable when executing the instructions to:

retrieve, from one or more data stores, information associated with one or more nodes, a node comprising a user node or a concept node, each node being connected by edges to other nodes of a social graph;

detect that a first user is entering an input term, the first user being associated with a first user node of the social graph;

provide predictive typeahead results as the first user enters the input term, the predictive typeahead results being based on the input term, each predictive typeahead result corresponding to at least one node of the social graph, each predictive typeahead result including at least one image associated with one of the at least one node.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein:

at least one node in the social graph comprises a second user node associated with a second user; and

the processors that are operable when executing the instructions to provide a predictive typeahead result comprise processors that are operable when executing the instructions to provide, based on a measure of affinity between the first user and the second user corresponding to the second user node, a predictive typeahead result corresponding to the second user node.

18. The system of claim 16 , wherein:

at least one node in the social graph comprises a concept node associated with a concept; and

the processors that are operable when executing the instructions to provide a predictive typeahead result comprise processors that are operable when executing the instructions to provide, based on a measure of affinity between the first user and the concept corresponding to the concept node, a predictive typeahead result corresponding to the concept node.

19. The system of claim 16 , wherein:

at least one node in the social graph comprises a second user node associated with a second user, the social graph identifying a relationship between the first user and the second user;

at least one node in the social graph comprises a concept node associated with a concept; and

the processors that are operable when executing the instructions to provide a predictive typeahead result corresponding to the at least one node comprise processors that are operable when executing the instructions to provide, based on a measure of affinity between the second user and the concept, a predictive typeahead result corresponding to the concept node.

20. The system of claim 16 , wherein the processors are further operable when executing the instructions to provide a description for the image by responding to a mouse placed over the image, showing a popup window, or showing text within the image.
