Abstract

A method for controlling playback of video data on a first device ( 12 ) by a second device ( 13 ) is disclosed, which includes, at the level of the second device, presenting an image corresponding to a section of the video data; and in response to a change of the presentation status of the image, transmitting a command to the first device to adapt the playback status of the section of video data on the first device as a function of the change of the presentation status of the image.

Claims (20)

1. A method of controlling playback of video data on a first device by a second device, comprising, at the second device:

presenting a plurality of images at the second device, each image corresponding to a section of the video data, wherein an image corresponding to the section of the video data currently played back by the first device is highlighted;

in response to a selection of an image among the plurality of images by a user, transmitting a first command to the first device to play back the video data corresponding to the image selected by the user; and

adapting highlighting of the plurality of images at the second device in response to a second command received from said first device upon a change of the section of video data currently played back on the first device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of images differs from the video data.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of images comprises a summary of a story in the video data.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein each section of the video data comprises a scene of the video data.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of images being received from the first device.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising sending to a head-end a report on an interaction of the user with the plurality of images, wherein the report includes a click-through rate of video sections used to compose the plurality of images to provide a summary of the video sections.

7. A method comprising:

presenting on a portable device a plurality of images, each image representing a section of a video playing back on a first device, wherein the plurality of images provides a video summary different from the full version of the video playing back on the first device;

providing by the portable device highlighting of a first one of the plurality of images corresponding to a first section of the video currently playing back on the first device;

receiving in the portable device a user selection of a second image among the plurality of images corresponding to a second section of the video;

transmitting by the portable device a command to the first device to playback the second section corresponding to the second image selected by the user;

receiving in the portable device a report from the first device indicating playback of the second section of the video on the first device; and

updating by the portable device the highlighting to highlight the second image of the plurality of images on the portable device in response to the report.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of images comprising a summary of a story in the video data.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein each section comprising a scene of the video data.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of images being received from the first device.

11. The method of claim 7 , further comprising sending to a head-end a report on an interaction of the user with the plurality of images, wherein the report comprises a click-through rate of video data sections used to compose the plurality of images to provide a summary of the video data sections.
