Abstract

A pressure angle of the worm is set to be greater than a pressure angle of the worm wheel so that a maximum number of meshing teeth becomes smaller than or equal to n (where n is a natural number) with respect to the speed reduction mechanism in which a number of meshing teeth is always n+1 or changed between n+1 and n by rotation under a condition in which the pressure angles of the worm and the worm wheel are the same with respect to each other.

Claims (16)

1. A worm gear optimized to reduce power loss and enhance rotation transmission efficiency, said worm gear comprising:

a worm comprising metal and having a first plurality of teeth;

a worm wheel comprising a self-lubricating plastic and having a second plurality of teeth;

said worm forming a first pressure angle for each tooth of said first plurality of teeth and said worm wheel forming a second pressure angle for each tooth of said second plurality of teeth when respective teeth of said first plurality of teeth make contact with respective teeth of said second plurality of teeth and referred to as meshing, said first pressure angle being greater than said second pressure angle; and

wherein the number of said first plurality of teeth and said second plurality of teeth that mesh is less than a number of teeth that mesh when said first and second pressure angles are equal to reduce power loss and enhance rotation transmission efficiency.

2. The worm gear of claim 1 wherein said number of said first plurality of teeth and said second plurality of teeth that mesh when said first and second pressure angles are equal is five and wherein said number of teeth that mesh when said first pressure angle is greater than said second pressure angle is four.

3. The worm gear of claim 1 wherein said number of said first plurality of teeth and said second plurality of teeth that mesh when said first and second pressure angles are equal is five and wherein said number of meshing teeth when said first pressure angle is greater than said second pressure angle is less than four.

4. The worm gear of claim 1 wherein said first pressure angle is 1.2× said second pressure angle.

5. The worm of claim 1 wherein said first pressure angle is 1.5× said second pressure angle.

6. The worm gear of claim 1 wherein said first pressure angle is 1.76× said second pressure angle.

7. The worm gear of claim 1 further comprising motor having a motor main body, said motor main body driving said worm.

8. A worm gear optimized to reduce power loss and enhance rotation transmission efficiency, said worm gear comprising:

a worm comprising metal and having a first plurality of teeth;

a worm wheel comprising a self-lubricating plastic and having a second plurality of teeth;

said worm forming a first pressure angle for each tooth of said first plurality of teeth and said worm wheel forming a second pressure angle for each tooth of said second plurality of teeth when respective teeth of said first plurality of teeth make contact with respective teeth of said second plurality of teeth and referred to as meshing, said first pressure angle being greater than said second pressure angle; and

wherein said first pressure angle is greater than said second pressure angle by an amount that allows for the number of meshing to be smaller than or equal to n to reduce power loss and enhance rotation transmission efficiency, wherein the number of meshing is always n+1 or changed between n+1 and n in a prior art worm gear in which said first pressure angle is the same as said second pressure angle.
