METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR RECOMMENDING CONTENT

1 . A computer-implemented method for automatically recommending content for a smart phone or smart-phone-like device, the method comprising the steps of:

maintaining, at a user profile database, user activity history;

determining, based on the user activity history, one or more recommended content from a content database as recommendations; and

causing one or more icons representing the recommended content to be shown on an icon layout on the user interface of the device.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user activity history includes history of any one or more of user's transactions and user's purchases.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining step includes determining a user's type based on the user activity history, and recommending content that positively correlates with the user's type.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining step includes determining a user's type based on the user activity history, and recommending content that is purchased or selected by another user of the user's type.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining step includes determining content similar to those of the user's transactions or the user's purchases.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:

receiving indication that a selection on the icon representing the recommended content was made on the user interface;

causing one or more transactions as necessary to communicate the recommended content to the user's device.

7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising the step of:

before causing the recommended content to be communicated, verifying that a purchase transaction for the content was completed.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more icons representing the recommended content are partially transparent versions of a content's standard icon.

9 . A computer-implemented method for automatically recommending applications for a smart phone or smart-phone-like device, the method comprising the steps of:

maintaining, at a use profile database, user transaction or purchase history;

determining, based on the user transaction or purchase history, one or more recommended content from a content database for recommending to a user, wherein the determining further comprises determining a user's type based on the user activity history, and recommending content that positively correlates with the user's type;

causing one or more icons representing the recommended content to be shown on an icon layout on the user interface of the device;

receiving indication that a selection on the icon representing the recommended content was made on the user interface; and

causing the recommended content to be communicated to the user's device.

A system for automatically recommending applications for a smart phone or smart-phone-like device, said system comprising: one or more processors; and a computer-readable medium carrying one or more sequences of instructions, which when executed by said one or more processors, implement a method for automatically recommending content for a smart phone or smart-phone-like device, the method comprising the steps of:

maintaining, at a user profile database, user activity history;

determining, based on the user activity history, one or more recommended content from a content database as recommendations; and

causing one or more icons representing the recommended content to be shown on an icon layout on the user interface of the device.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the user activity history includes history of any one or more of user's transactions and user's purchases.

12 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the determining step of the method includes determining a user's type based on the user activity history, and recommending content that positively correlates with the user's type.

13 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the determining step of the method includes determining a user's type based on the user activity history, and recommending content that is purchased or selected by another user of the user's type.

14 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the determining step of the method includes determining content similar to those of the user's transactions or the user's purchases.

15 . The system of claim 10 , the method further comprising the steps of:

receiving input that a selection on the icon representing the recommended content was made on the user interface;

causing the recommended content to be communicated to the user's device.

16 . The system of claim 15 , the method further comprising the step of:

before causing the recommended content to be communicated, verifying that a purchase transaction for the content was completed.

17 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more icons representing the recommended content are partially transparent versions of a content's standard icon.

A system for automatically recommending applications for a smart phone or smart-phone-like device, said system comprising: one or more processors; and a computer-readable medium carrying one or more sequences of instructions, which when executed by said one or more processors, implement a method for automatically recommending content for a smart phone or smart-phone-like device, the method comprising the steps of:

maintaining, at a use profile database, user transaction or purchase history;

determining, based on the user transaction or purchase history, one or more recommended content from a content database for recommending to a user, wherein the determining further comprises determining a user's type based on the user activity history, and recommending content that positively correlates with the user's type;

causing one or more icons representing the recommended content to be shown on an icon layout on the user interface of the device;

receiving indication that a selection on the icon representing the recommended content was made on the user interface; and

causing the recommended content to be communicated to the user's device.
