Abstract

Techniques and mechanisms are provided for sending targeted content and data to mobile devices. Location information associated with a device is determined. In some instances, the location information is manually entered. In other instances, the location information is determined automatically from characteristics associated with the device. Location information can be obtained from global positioning system (GPS) data, cell-site triangulation, Internet Protocol (IP) address detection, etc. Content and advertising can be provided in a location relevant manner to the mobile device.

Claims (27)

1. A method comprising:

receiving a request for first program guide information from a user at a first location, the request received at a device, wherein the first location is automatically detected by a component included in the device, wherein the first location content does not include a program subject to blackout restrictions particular to the first location;

sending first program guide information for a first time slot and a first block of channels to a display associated with the device;

detecting movement of the device from the first location to a second location, wherein the second location is different from the first location;

transmitting a second request for program guide information, the second request transmitted from the device at a second location, wherein the second request is transmitted after identifying user interaction with the device and detecting movement to the second location; and

receiving second program guide information at the device, the second program guide information for the second location comprising second location content different from first location content included in the first program guide information for the first location, wherein the second program guide information is sent with advertising corresponding to the second location of the device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second program guide information comprises a second block of channels, wherein the second block of channels comprises channels not included in the first block of channels.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second program guide information comprises second location content blacked out for the first location.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein first program guide information is sent with advertising corresponding to the first location of the device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second program guide information is sent to the display associated with the device.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein movement to the second location is automatically detected by the component included in the device.

7. A device comprising:

a display interface configured to receive a request for the first program guide information from a user at a first location, the request received at a device, wherein first program guide information is sent for a first time slot and a first block of channels to the display interface associated with the device, wherein the first location is automatically detected by a component included in the device, wherein the first location content does not include a program subject to blackout restrictions particular to the first location;

a component configured to detect movement of the device from the first location to a second location, wherein the second location is different from the first location; and

a transceiver configured to transmit a request for second program guide information to a program guide server, the request for second program guide information transmitted from the device at a second location, wherein the request for second program guide information is transmitted after identifying user interaction with the device and detecting movement to the second location, wherein second program guide information is received at the device, the second program guide information for the second location comprising second location content different from first location content included in the first guide information for the first location, wherein the second program guide information is sent with advertising corresponding to the second location of the device.

8. The device of claim 7 , wherein the second program guide information comprises a second block of channels, wherein the second block of channels comprises channels not included in the first block of channels.

9. The device of claim 7 , wherein the second program guide information comprises second location content blacked out for the first location.

10. The device of claim 7 , wherein first program guide information is sent with advertising corresponding to the first location of the device.

11. The device of claim 7 , wherein the second program guide information is sent to the display associated with the device.

12. The device of claim 7 , wherein movement to the second location is automatically detected by the processor included in the device.

13. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising:

computer code for receiving a request for first program guide information from a user at a first location, the request received at a device, wherein the first location is automatically detected by a component included in the device, wherein the first location content does not include a program subject to blackout restrictions particular to the first location;

computer code for sending the first program guide information for a first time slot and a first block of channels to a display associated with the device;

computer code for detecting movement of the device from the first location to a second location, wherein the second location is different from the first location;

computer code for transmitting a second request for program guide information the second request transmitted from the device at a second location, wherein the second request is transmitted after identifying user interaction with the device and detecting movement to the second location; and

computer code for receiving second program guide information at the device, the second program guide information for the second location comprising second location content different from first location content included in the first program guide information for the first location, wherein the second program guide information is sent with advertising corresponding to the second location of the device.

14. The computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the second program guide information comprises a second block of channels, wherein the second block of channels comprises channels not included in the first block of channels.
