System and Method For Inserting A Graphic Object Into A Text Based Message
A system and method for selecting graphic objects to insert in a text message when composed on a wireless device, each of the graphic objects representing a set of individual alphanumeric characters. The system comprises an object table for display on a user interface of the device, such that the table is configured for including a first object of the graphic objects associated with a first predefined input and a second object of the graphic objects associated with a second predefined input. The first input is different from the second input. The system also has a first input event component for coupling to the user interface such that the first input event component is configured for mapping to the first predefined input. The system also has a second input event component for coupling to the user interface such that the second input event component is configured for mapping to the second predefined input, the first input event component being different from the second input event component. A user of the device selects one of the graphic objects from the table by employing the respective one of the input event components mapped to the predefined input associated with the graphic object in the table.
1 . A communication device to select graphic objects to insert in a text based message composed on device, comprising:
a display;
a processor, in communication with the display, and configured to:
display, on the display, a first table including a plurality of alphabetic characters, and a table selection;
after receiving an input associated with the table selection, display on the display, a second table including a plurality of graphic objects;
after receiving an input associated with one of the graphic objects, insert the one graphic object in the text based message.
2 . The communication device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the plurality of graphic objects is selected from the group including: emoticons; text strings; icons; predefined groups of alphanumeric characters and a combination thereof.
3 . The communication device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the alphabetic characters are selected from the group including ASCII characters, Unicode characters, and a combination thereof.
4 . The communication device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the plurality of alphabetic characters are displayed in a QWERTY keyboard arrangement.
5 . The communication device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the text based message is an instant message (IM), a short message service (SMS) communication, an email, a chat communication or an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) communication.
6 . The communication device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the second table is one of a plurality of graphic tables.
7 . The communication device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the table selection includes an indicator, indicating that the table selection is associated with the plurality of graphic objects.
8 . The communication device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to:
after the input associated with the table selection is received, replace the display of the first table, with the display of the second table.
9 . The communication device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to:
display in the second table a second table selection; and
after receiving an input associated with the second table selection, display on the display, a third table including another plurality of graphic objects.
10 . A method to select graphic objects to insert in a text based message composed on a communication device having a display, comprising:
displaying on the display, a first table including a plurality of alphabetic characters, and a table selection;
after receiving an input associated with the table selection, displaying on the display, a second table including a plurality of graphic objects; and
after receiving an input associated with one of the graphic objects, inserting the one graphic object in the text based message.
11 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the plurality of graphic objects is selected from the group including: emoticons; text strings; icons; predefined groups of alphanumeric characters and a combination thereof.
12 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the alphabetic characters are selected from the group including ASCII characters, Unicode characters, and a combination thereof.
13 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the input associated with the table selection is executed through an input key of a keyboard on a user interface.
14 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the plurality of alphabetic characters are displayed in a QWERTY keyboard arrangement.
15 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the text based message is an instant message (IM), a short message service (SMS) communication, an email, a chat communication or an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) communication.
16 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the second table is one of a plurality of graphic tables.
17 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the table selection includes an indicator, indicating that the table selection is associated with the plurality of graphic objects.
18 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , wherein after the input associated with the table selection is received, the display of the second table replaces the display of the first table.
19 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , further comprising:
displaying in the second table a second table selection; and
after receiving an input associated with the second table selection, display on the display, a third table including another plurality of graphic objects.
20 . A method to display graphic objects on a communication device having a display, comprising:
displaying on the display, a first table including a plurality of alphabetic characters, and a table selection;
after receiving an input associated with the table selection, displaying on the display, a second table including a plurality of graphic objects and a second table selection; and
after receiving an input associated with the second table selection, display on the display, a third table including another plurality of graphic objects.
