TRACKING VENTILATOR INFORMATION FOR REPORTING A VENTILATOR-ASSOCIATED EVENT
A method for tracking ventilator information for clinical process improvement or reporting of a ventilator-associated event. The method includes receiving rules for reporting a ventilator-associated event; configuring threshold values corresponding to the rules; comparing ventilator information obtained during patient care with the rules and the threshold values; and generating an output of the comparison of said ventilator information with the rules and the threshold values.
1 . A method for tracking ventilator information for clinical process improvement and public reporting of a ventilator-associated event, said method comprising:
receiving rules for public reporting of one or more of ventilator-associated condition (VAC) reporting and infection-related ventilator-associated complication (IVAC) reporting;
configuring threshold values corresponding to stages of said rules;
comparing ventilator information obtained during patient care with said rules and said threshold values; and
generating an output of said comparison of said ventilator information with said rules and said threshold values.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said configuring threshold values further comprises:
automatically configuring a positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) threshold value based on a daily minimum value on day two of stability.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said configuring threshold values further comprises:
automatically configuring a fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO 2 ) threshold value based on a daily minimum value on day two of stability.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said ventilator information is automatically obtained.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said generating an output further comprises:
generating said public report.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said generating an output further comprises:
generating an output that highlights values that exceed said threshold values.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said generating an output further comprises:
generating an output that predicts future ventilator-associated events.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said generating an output further comprises:
generating an output that predicts when said threshold values will be exceeded.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said receiving rules for public reporting further comprises:
receiving rules that said IVAC reporting is required on or after calendar day three of ventilation and within two calendar days before or after onset of worsening oxygenation, when a patient meets both of (1) temperature >38° C. or <36°, or white blood cell count ≧12,000 cells/mm 3 or ≦4,000 cells/mm 3 and (2) a new antimicrobial agent is started and is continued for ≧4 calendar days.
10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
filtering noise from said ventilator information.
11 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining a stage of said rules for a patient in respiratory care.
12 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining a stage of said rules for all patients in respiratory care.
13 . A method for tracking ventilator information for clinical process improvement and reporting of a ventilator-associated event, said method comprising:
receiving rules for reporting a ventilator-associated event;
configuring threshold values corresponding to said rules;
comparing ventilator information obtained during patient care with said rules and said threshold values; and
generating an output of said comparison of said ventilator information with said rules and said threshold values.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said configuring threshold values further comprises:
automatically configuring a positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) threshold value based on a daily minimum value on day two of stability.
15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said configuring threshold values further comprises:
automatically configuring a fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO 2 ) threshold value based on a daily minimum value on day two of stability.
16 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said ventilator information is automatically obtained.
17 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said generating an output further comprises:
generating an output that predicts when said threshold values will be exceeded.
18 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising:
filtering noise from said ventilator information.
19 . A system for tracking ventilator information for clinical process improvement and public reporting of a ventilator-associated event comprising:
a rules receiver to receive rules for reporting a ventilator-associated event;
a threshold values configurer to configure threshold values corresponding to said rules;
a comparator to compare ventilator information obtained during patient care with said rules and said threshold values; and
an output generator to generate an output of said comparison of said ventilator information with said rules and said threshold values.
20 . The system of claim 19 , further comprising:
a noise filter to filter noise from said ventilator information.
