Abstract

Inventive embodiments are directed to components, subassemblies, systems, and/or methods for continuously variable transmissions (CVT). In one embodiment, a main axle is adapted to receive a shift rod that cooperates with a shift rod nut to actuate a ratio change in a CVT. In another embodiment, an axial force generating mechanism can include a torsion spring, a traction ring adapted to receive the torsion spring, and a roller cage retainer configured to cooperate with the traction ring to house the torsion spring. Various inventive idler-and-shift-cam assemblies can be used to facilitate shifting the ratio of a CVT. Embodiments of a hub shell and a hub cover are adapted to house components of a CVT and, in some embodiments, to cooperate with other components of the CVT to support operation and/or functionality of the CVT. Among other things, shift control interfaces and braking features for a CVT are disclosed.

Claims (22)

1. A disc brake adapter kit comprising:

a fastening plate;

a disc brake adapter plate coupled to the fastening plate and having:

a plurality of openings for coupling to a disc brake rotor, and

a central bore having a circumferential groove;

a resilient shield having a recess between an outer portion and an inner portion, the resilient shield being configured for positioning within the central bore, the circumferential groove being configured to retain the resilient shield; and

a cupped washer configured for positioning within the recess in the resilient shield, the resilient shield being adapted to cooperate with the cupped washer to seal against contaminants.

2. The disc brake adapter kit of claim 1 , further comprising at least one seal operably coupled to the disc brake adapter kit.

3. The disc brake adapter kit of claim 2 , wherein the at least one seal comprises a labyrinth seal.

4. The disc brake adapter kit of claim 3 , wherein the fastening plate and the disc brake adapter plate are one integral piece.

5. The disc brake adapter kit of claim 2 , wherein the disc brake adapter plate is adapted to receive and retain the at least one seal.

6. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the fastening plate comprises a recess for receiving a roller brake flange.

7. The disc brake adapter kit of claim 1 , the resilient shield comprising:

a substantially annular body having a dome-shaped outer portion, a conical inner portion, and a central bore; and

a second recess formed on the annular body, the second recess adapted to cover a splined flange of the disc brake adapter kit.

8. The disc brake adapter kit of claim 7 , wherein an outer diameter of the annular body is about 33-40 mm.

9. The disc brake adapter kit of claim 7 , wherein an inner diameter of the annular body is about 31-38 mm.

10. The disc brake adapter kit of claim 1 , the resilient shield comprising:

a generally annular body having a dome-shaped outer portion and a conical inner portion; and

a plurality of fastening fingers extending from the annular body.

11. The disc brake adapter kit of claim 10 , wherein a distance between the fastening fingers and the dome-shaped portion is about 8-13 mm.

12. The disc brake adapter kit of claim 10 , wherein the conical portion comprises a central bore having a diameter of about 20-28 mm.
