Abstract

A light-emitting device includes a first electrode area on a substrate and a functional light-emitting layer on the first electrode area. A second electrode area is disposed on the functional light-emitting layer. A light outlet layer is disposed in a radiation path of the functional light-emitting layer. The light outlet layer incorporates a number of optical elements whose distribution and/or geometrical shape vary across a surface of the light outlet layer.

Claims (38)

1. A light-emitting device comprising:

a substrate;

a first electrode area on the substrate;

a functional light-emitting layer on the first electrode area;

a second electrode area on the functional light-emitting layer; and

a light outlet layer in a single radiation path defined by the first electrode area, the functional light-emitting layer and the second electrode area, wherein the light outlet layer incorporates a plurality of optical elements whose distribution and/or geometrical shape vary across a surface of the light outlet layer, wherein all of the optical elements are arranged in the single radiation path.

2. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the distribution of the optical elements varies across the surface of the light outlet layer.

3. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the geometrical shape of the optical elements varies across the surface of the light outlet layer.

4. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the distribution and geometrical shape of the optical elements vary across the surface of the light outlet layer.

5. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the optical elements comprise elements selected from the group consisting of lenses, prisms, cylinders, light-filtering units and scattering particles.

6. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the optical elements are located on a primary surface of the light outlet layer.

7. The device according to claim 1 , further comprising first and second electrically conductive tracks that are in electrical contact with the first electrode area, wherein the first and second conductive tracks are arranged in such a way that the tracks are excited by time-variable and/or locally variable and/or different magnitudes of electrical current, thereby resulting in a varying luminance and wherein the first and second conductive tracks are separately electrically driven.

8. The device according to claim 1 , further comprising a first charge transport layer between the first electrode area and the functional light-emitting layer, wherein the first charge transport layer has partial regions having different electrical conductivities.

9. The device according to claim 1 , wherein, in addition, the surface of the first electrode area has an electrical conductivity that varies in a lateral direction.

10. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the surface of the first electrode area has surface modifications that vary in a lateral direction.

11. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the light-emitting device comprises an OLED.

12. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the first electrode area, the functional light-emitting layer, the second electrode area, and the plurality of optical elements overlap in a plan view of the light emitting device.

13. A light-emitting device comprising:

a substrate,

a first electrode area on the substrate,

a first charge transport layer on the electrode area, wherein the first charge transport layer has partial regions which do not overlap in a top view of the light-emitting device and which have different electrical conductivities,

at least one functional light-emitting layer on the first charge transport layer, and

a second electrode area on the functional light-emitting layer.

14. The device according to claim 13 , wherein the first charge transport layer incorporates regions that alternate in a lateral direction and which alternately feature higher and lower conductivities.

15. The device according to claim 13 , wherein the first charge transport layer incorporates a dopant whose distribution within the partial regions of the first charge transport layer varies.

16. The device according to claim 15 , wherein the distribution of the dopant lies in a range of less than 15 percent of a maximum value of the dopant concentration.

17. The device according to claim 13 , further comprising a second charge transport layer between the at least one functional light-emitting layer and the second electrode area, wherein the second charge transport layer has partial regions having different electrical conductivities.

18. The device according to claim 17 , wherein the second charge transport layer incorporates regions that alternate in a lateral direction and which alternately feature higher and lower conductivities.

19. The device according to claim 17 , wherein the second charge transport layer incorporates a dopant, whose distribution within the partial regions of the second charge transport layer varies.

20. The device according to claim 13 , wherein the light-emitting device comprises an OLED.

21. A organic light emitting diode comprising:

a substrate;

a first electrode area on the substrate;

first and second electrically conductive tracks that are in electrical contact with the first electrode area, wherein the first and second conductive tracks are arranged in such a way that the tracks are excited by time-variable and/or locally variable and/or different magnitudes of electrical current, thereby resulting in a varying luminance and wherein the first and second conductive tracks are separately electrically driven;

a first charge transport layer on the electrode area, wherein the first charge transport layer has partial regions having different electrical conductivities;

a functional light-emitting layer on the first electrode area;

a second electrode area on the functional light-emitting layer; and

a light outlet layer in a radiation path of the functional light-emitting layer, wherein the light outlet layer incorporates a plurality of optical elements whose distribution and/or geometrical shape vary across a surface of the light outlet layer.
