Abstract

Reusing system configuration information and metadata for related operations is disclosed. It is determined that a group of content management system commands may be treated as a related set for purposes of updating content management system configuration information and/or metadata. The content management system configuration information and/or metadata are updated once for purposes of processing the group.

Claims (44)

1. A method for managing stored content, comprising:

receiving, at a content management system, an indication that includes a beginning and an end of a group of content management system commands that are within a same scope, wherein content management system commands that are within the same scope comprise a related set, and wherein to perform the content management system commands in the related set, at least one of a cached content management system configuration information and a cached content management system metadata describing one or more content objects is updated only once;

receiving a first content management system command;

determining that the first content management system command is not within the same scope;

updating, based at least in part on the determination that the first content management system command is not within the same scope, at least one of the cached content management system configuration information and the cached content management system metadata; and

performing the first content management system command;

wherein at least one of the cached content management system configuration information and the cached content management system metadata is updated only once for the performance of the related set of content management system commands.

2. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising determining that the group of content management system commands operate on data previously cached by the content management system.

3. The method according to claim 2 , further comprising refreshing the cache always, once per a user session, once for the related set, once per a predetermined time interval, or once per a database transaction.

4. The method according to claim 3 , wherein grouping and the refreshing the cache once for the related set are performed according to a predetermined grouping by scope.

5. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the cache is refreshed before the updating is performed on at least a portion of the related set.

6. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising grouping a plurality of content management system commands within the related set into a related subset.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein an indication received from the client includes a begin scope indication and an end scope indication.

8. The method according to claim 7 , wherein content management system commands received after the receipt of the begin scope indication but before the receipt of the end scope indication are part of a related set of content management system commands that are determined to be within the same scope.

9. A system for managing stored content, the system comprising a content server configured to:

receive an indication that includes a beginning and an end of a group of content management system commands that are within a same scope, wherein content management system commands that are within the same scope comprise a related set, and wherein to perform the content management system commands in the related set, at least one of a cached content management system configuration information and a cached content management system metadata describing one or more content objects is updated only once;

receive a first content management system command;

determine that the first content management system command is not within the same scope;

update, based at least in part on the determination that the first content management system command is not within the same scope, at least one of the cached content management system configuration information and the cached content management system metadata; and

perform the first content management system command;

wherein at least one of the cached content management system configuration information and the cached content management system metadata is updated only once for the performance of the related set of content management system commands.

10. The system according to claim 9 , wherein the content server is further configured to determine that the group of content management system commands operate on data previously cached by the content management system.

11. The system according to claim 10 , wherein the content server is further configured to refresh the cache always, once per a user session, once for the related set, once per a predetermined time interval, or once per a database transaction.

12. The system according to claim 11 , wherein the content server is configured to group and refresh the cache once for the related set according to a predetermined grouping by scope.

13. The system according to claim 10 , wherein the content server is configured to refresh the cache before updating at least a portion of the related set.

14. The system according to claim 10 , wherein the content server is further configured to group a plurality of content management system commands within the related set into a related subset.

15. The system according to claim 10 , wherein the content server is further configured to check whether the cache is to be refreshed.

16. The system according to claim 15 , wherein the checking includes refreshing the cache always, once per a user session, once for the related subset, once per a predetermined time interval, or once per a database transaction.

17. The system according to claim 10 , wherein the content server is configured to group and the refresh the cache once for the related set according to a predetermined grouping by scope.

18. The system according to claim 9 , wherein the content server is configured to group a plurality of content management system commands within the related set into a related subset.

19. The system according to claim 9 , wherein an indication received from the client includes a begin scope indication and an end scope indication.

20. The system according to claim 19 , wherein content management system commands received after the receipt of the begin scope indication but before the receipt of the end scope indication are part of a related set of content management system commands that are determined to be within the same scope.

21. A computer program product for managing stored content, the computer program product being embodied in a non-transitory computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for:

receiving, at a content management system, an indication that includes a beginning and an end of a group of content management system commands that are within a same scope, wherein content management system commands that are within the same scope comprise a related set, and wherein to perform the content management system commands in the related set, at least one of a cached content management system configuration information and a cached content management system metadata describing one or more content objects is updated only once;

receiving a first content management system command;

determining that the first content management system command is not within the same scope;

updating, based at least in part on the determination that the first content management system command is not within the same scope, at least one of the cached content management system configuration information and the cached content management system metadata; and

performing the first content management system command;

wherein at least one of the cached content management system configuration information and the cached content management system metadata is updated only once for the performance of the related set of content management system commands.

22. The computer program product according to claim 21 , further comprising computer instructions for determining that the group of content management system commands operate on data previously cached by the content management system.

23. The computer program product according to claim 22 , wherein the content server is configured to refresh the cache before updating at least a portion of the related set.

24. The computer program product according to claim 22 , further comprising computer instructions for grouping and the refreshing the cache once for the related set are performed according to a predetermined grouping by scope.

25. The computer program product according to claim 21 , wherein an indication received from the client includes a begin scope indication and an end scope indication.

26. The computer program product according to claim 25 , wherein content management system commands received after the receipt of the begin scope indication but before the receipt of the end scope indication are part of a related set of content management system commands that are determined to be within the same scope.
