Abstract

A fluid trap is disclosed herein. The fluid trap has a tube connector defining a first interior passageway and a second interior passageway. The tube connector is adapted for connection with a dual lumen tube such that the first interior passageway is in fluid communication with one of the dual lumen and the second interior passageway is in fluid communication with the other of the dual lumen. The fluid trap also includes a reservoir operatively connected to the tube connector. The reservoir is in fluid communication with only one of the interior passageways, and is configured to retain fluid from that passageway.

Claims (28)

1. A fluid trap comprising:

a tube connector including a first end and a second end opposite the first end, and defining a first interior passageway and a second interior passageway, each passageway in fluid communication with the first end and the second end, wherein the first interior passageway and the second interior passageway at each of the first and second ends are separated from each other by a gap defined between the first interior passageway and the second interior passageway and extending transverse to the first and second interior passageways across the entire tube connector, and the first end and second end are adapted for connection with a dual lumen tube such that the first interior passageway is in fluid communication with a first lumen of the dual lumen tube and the second interior passageway is in fluid communication with a second lumen of the dual lumen tube; and

a reservoir operatively connected to the tube connector through a conduit, the reservoir being in fluid communication with only the first interior passageway through an aperture defined at a junction between the conduit and the first interior passageway, the aperture comprising a flat portion near the second interior passageway and a curved portion extending away from the second interior passageway and connecting to two ends of the flat portion, wherein the reservoir is configured to retain fluid from the first interior passageway.

2. The fluid trap of claim 1 , wherein the first interior passageway is discrete from said second interior passageway.

3. The fluid trap of claim 2 , wherein the tube connector comprises a first D-shaped connector portion and a second D-shaped connector portion at each of the first and second ends, the first D-shaped connector portion including the first interior passageway and adapted for insertion into the first lumen of the dual lumen tube, and the second D-shaped connector portion including the second interior passageway and adapted for insertion into the second lumen of the dual lumen tube.

4. The fluid trap of claim 3 , wherein the first and second D-shaped connector portions are oriented back-to-back and outward facing.

5. The fluid trap of claim 4 , wherein the tube connector defines the gap between the first and second D-shaped connector portions, said gap configured to accommodate a dual lumen tube partition.

6. The fluid trap of claim 1 , wherein the second interior passageway is configured to form a pass through connection.

7. The fluid trap of claim 1 , further comprising a second reservoir operatively connected to the tube connector, the second reservoir is in fluid communication with the second interior passageway.

8. A fluid trap comprising:

a tube connector including a first end and a second end opposite the first end, and comprising:

a first connector portion at the first and second ends and adapted for connection with a first lumen of a dual lumen tube, said first connector portion defining a first interior passageway; and

a second connector portion at the first and second ends and adapted for connection with a second lumen of the dual lumen tube, said second connector portion defining a second interior passageway, said second interior passageway discrete from said first interior passageway, and the first connector portion and the second connector portion separated from each other at each of the first and second ends by a gap defined between the first connector portion and the second connector portion and extending transverse to the first and second interior passageways across the entire tube connector; and

a reservoir operatively connected to the tube connector through a conduit, the reservoir being in fluid communication with only the first interior passageway through an aperture defined at a junction between the conduit and the first interior passageway, the aperture comprising a flat portion near the second interior passageway and a curved portion extending away from the second interior passageway and connecting to two ends of the flat portion, wherein the reservoir is configured to retain fluid from the first interior passageway.

9. The fluid trap of claim 8 , wherein the first and second connector portions are D-shaped.

10. The fluid trap of claim 9 , wherein the first and second D-shaped connector portions are oriented back-to-back and outward facing.

11. The fluid trap of claim 10 , wherein the tube connector defines the gap between the first and second D-shaped connector portions, said gap configured to accommodate a dual lumen tube partition.

12. The fluid trap of claim 8 , wherein the second interior passageway is configured to form a pass through connection.

13. The fluid trap of claim 8 , further comprising a second reservoir operatively connected to the tube connector, the second reservoir is in fluid communication with the second interior passageway.

14. A fluid trap comprising:

a tube connector including a first end and a second end opposite the first end, and comprising:

a first D-shaped connector portion at the first and second ends and adapted for insertion into a first lumen of a dual lumen tube, said first D-shaped connector portion defining a first interior passageway; and

a second D-shaped connector portion at the first and second ends and adapted for insertion into a second lumen of the dual lumen tube, said second D-shaped connector portion defining a second interior passageway, said second interior passageway discrete from said first interior passageway, and the first D-shaped connector portion and the second D-shaped connector portion separated from each other at each of the first and second ends by a gap defined between the first D-shaped connector portion and the second D-shaped connector portion and extending transverse to the first and second interior passageways across the entire tube connector;

a first reservoir operatively connected to the tube connector through a first conduit, the first reservoir being in fluid communication with only the first interior passageway through a first aperture defined at a junction between the first conduit and the first interior passageway, the first aperture comprising a flat portion near the second interior passageway and a curved portion extending away from the second interior passageway and connecting to two ends of the flat portion, wherein the first reservoir is configured to retain fluid from the first interior passageway; and

a second reservoir operatively connected to the tube connector, the second reservoir being in fluid communication with the second interior passageway, wherein the second reservoir is configured to retain fluid from the second interior passageway.

15. The fluid trap of claim 14 , wherein the first and second D-shaped connector portions are oriented back-to-back and outward facing.

16. The fluid trap of claim 14 , wherein the gap is configured to accommodate a dual lumen tube partition.

17. The fluid trap of claim 14 , wherein the second reservoir is operatively connected to the tube connector through a second conduit and is in fluid communication with the second interior passageway through a second aperture defined at a junction between the second conduit and the second interior passageway, the second aperture comprising a flat portion near the first interior passageway and a curved portion extending away from the first interior passageway and connecting to two ends of the flat portion.
