Abstract

A digital image of the object is captured and the object is recognized from plurality of objects in a database. An information address corresponding to the object is then used to access information and initiate communication pertinent to the object.

Claims (38)

1. An object recognition platform, comprising:

a vehicle including at least one sensor configured to acquire a digital representation of a scene local to the vehicle;

an identification server configured to:

receive the digital representation;

derive descriptors from the digital representation and associated with a portion of the digital representation;

discriminate a foreground object within the portion of the digital representation from background objects within the scene based on the descriptors;

identify the foreground object as at least one target object identified from known objects through comparison of the descriptors associated with the portion of the digital representation to descriptors associated with the known objects;

determine object information based on target object information associated with the target object; and

enable a device to perform an action based on the object information.

2. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle comprises an automobile.

3. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle comprises an aircraft.

4. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle comprises a spacecraft.

5. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the digital representation comprises location information.

6. The platform of claim 5 , wherein the location information comprises global position system information.

7. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the digital representation comprises imagery data.

8. The platform of claim 7 , wherein the imagery data comprises video.

9. The platform of claim 7 , wherein the digital representation comprises imagery data derived from multiple cameras.

10. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle comprises a GPS sensor configured to determine a location of the vehicle.

11. The platform of claim 10 , wherein the sensor comprises a camera.

12. The platform of claim 10 , wherein the digital representation comprises a frequency component.

13. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle comprises, at least in part, the identification server.

14. The platform of claim 13 , wherein the vehicle comprises the entire identification server.

15. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the identification server is, at least in part, separate from the vehicle.

16. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the object information includes a position of the at least one of the foreground object.

17. The platform of claim 16 , wherein the position is relative to the vehicle.

18. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the object information comprises an object classification.

19. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the foreground object comprises a person.

20. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the foreground object comprises an automobile.

21. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the foreground object comprises the device, and wherein the device is an active device.

22. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle comprises the device.

23. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the action comprises initiation of a software process on the device.

24. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the descriptors associated with the portion of the digital representation comprise image descriptors.

25. The platform of claim 24 , wherein the image descriptors comprise circular image descriptors.

26. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the descriptors associated with the portion of the digital representation comprise local descriptors, which are local to the portion of the digital representation.

27. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the descriptors associated with the portion of the digital representation comprise invariant features.

28. The platform of claim 27 , wherein the invariant features comprise local scale-invariant features.

29. The platform of claim 27 , wherein the invariant features comprise rotationally invariant features.

30. The platform of claim 1 , wherein the comparison of descriptors associated with the portion of the digital representation is limited to descriptors associated with a subset of the known objects.
