Abstract

An imaging apparatus has an emission device to emit X-rays and a detection device to detect X-rays. A detector collimator is located between the patient space and the detection device. The emission device and detection device operate while translating along a displacement axis, to take a plurality of acquisitions. The imaging apparatus has a setting device to modify a dimension of a collimator slit.

Claims (25)

1. An imaging apparatus comprising:

an emission device adapted to emit X-rays, in an irradiation plane comprising an incidence direction,

a detection device adapted to detect X-rays,

a patient space being defined between said emission device and detection device, and adapted to receive a patient to be imaged,

a detector collimator located between said patient space and said detection device, said detector collimator comprising a X-ray absorbing plate in which a X-ray transparent detector slit is formed,

a motoring device adapted to cause a relative movement of the emission device, the detection device and the detector collimator relative to the patient, along a displacement axis normal to the irradiation plane,

wherein said detector slit has at least one dimension, along the displacement axis,

a patient collimator located between said emission device and said patient space, said patient collimator comprising a X-ray absorbing plate in which a X-ray-transparent patient slit is formed, said patient slit having at least one dimension along the displacement axis, and defining said irradiation plane,

wherein the motoring device is also adapted to cause a relative movement of the patient collimator relative to the patient along the displacement axis,

a control device adapted to cause the emission device and detection device to operate during said movement, so as to take a plurality of acquisitions, each taken along the same incidence direction, and each in a respective one of a plurality of different positions along said displacement axis,

wherein the imaging apparatus comprises a setting device adapted to modify said dimension of said detector slit,

wherein the control device comprises a computing device adapted to receive, as input, at least a parameter related to the patient, and to determine, based on said parameter and on a database, said dimension to be set by the setting device,

a second emission device adapted to emit X-rays, in a second incidence direction, wherein the second irradiation plane is parallel to the irradiation plane,

a second detection device adapted to detect X-rays,

said second emission device and second detection device being located on either side of said patient space,

a second detector collimator located between said patient space and said second detection device, said second detector collimator comprising a X-ray absorbing plate in which a X-ray transparent detector slit is formed, said detector slit having at least one dimension, along said displacement axis,

wherein the motoring device is also adapted to cause a relative movement of the second emission device, the second detection device and the second detector collimator relative to the patient, along said displacement axis,

wherein the control device is adapted to cause the second emission device and second detection device to operate during said movement, so as to take a plurality of second acquisitions each taken along the same second incidence direction, normal to said incidence direction, and each second acquisition being taken in a respective one of a plurality of different positions along said displacement axis, and

wherein the setting device is adapted to modify said dimension of the slit of said second detector collimator and is adapted to modify said dimension of said slit of said second detector collimator independently from dimensions of slits of said patient and detector collimators.

2. Imaging apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the setting device is adapted to modify at least said dimension of the slit of said patient collimator.

3. Imaging apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein at least one slit is rectangular, having a height measured along said displacement axis, and a width normal thereto, and wherein said setting device is adapted to modify the width of said slit.

4. Imaging apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the control device comprises a computing device adapted to receive, as input, at least a parameter related to at least one dimension of at least one slit, and to determine, based on said parameter, at least one dimension of another slit to be set by the setting device.

5. Imaging apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the setting device is adapted to modify a dimension of one slit during said relative movement.

6. An imaging apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said movements of the emission device and of the second emission device relative to the patient are synchronized,

and wherein the control device is adapted to synchronize operation of said emission device and detection device with operation of said second emission device and second detection device.
