Abstract

Apparatus, and an associated method, for providing routing information to a mobile node operable in a radio communication system. The routing information is used by the mobile node to address data messages that are to be communicated to a relay host, or other, device. The routing information that is provided to the mobile node includes a plurality of separate routing sequences. Different ones of the routing sequences are used by the mobile node, depending upon at what location that the mobile node is positioned when the data message is sent. A registration server is used by which to create the routing information, responsive to indications of a home network associated with the mobile node and a current location of the mobile node.

Claims (28)

1. An apparatus for a radio communication system, said apparatus comprising:

a server configured to:

detect values that identify a home network value and a current network value; and

determine routing information to route a mobile-node-originated message from a plurality of different locations within the coverage area of the radio communication system based upon the home network value, the current network value, and roaming agreement information.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said server is configured to detect values in a mobile-node registration request that identify the home network value and the current network value.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein the home network value comprises a mobile-node home network value and wherein the current network value comprises a mobile-node current network value.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein determination of the routing information by said server further comprises said server accessing a first database table that contains first host routing information associated with the home network value.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein determination of the routing information by said server further comprises said server accessing a second database table that contains second host routing information associated with carrier information.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein determination of the routing information by said server further comprises said server accessing a third database table that contains third host routing information associated with carrier information.

7. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein the first database table is maintained at said server.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said server is further configured to provide a mobile node with the routing information.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein said server is further configured to provide the mobile node with the routing information in a registration-request response.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the routing information determined by said server comprises routing information to route a mobile-node-originated message that includes a multiplicity of carrier associations amongst a plurality of carriers with a multiplicity of relationships therebetween.

11. A method for facilitating routing of data in a radio communication system, said method comprising:

detecting values, at a server, that identify a home network value and a current network value; and

determining routing information, at a server, to route a mobile-node-originated message from a plurality of different locations within the coverage area of the radio communication system based upon the home network value, the current network value, and roaming agreement information.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein said detecting comprises detecting values in a mobile-node registration request that identify the home network value and the current network value.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the home network value comprises a mobile-node home network value and wherein the current network value comprises a mobile-node current network value.

14. The method of claim 11 wherein said determining the routing information further comprises accessing a first database table that contains first host routing information associated with the home network value.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein said determining further comprises accessing a second database table that contains second host routing information associated with carrier information.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein said determining comprises accessing a third database table that contains third host routing information associated with carrier information.

17. The method of claim 14 wherein the first database table is maintained at the server.

18. The method of claim 11 further comprising providing a mobile node with the routing information.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein said providing comprises providing the mobile node with the routing information in a registration-request response.

20. The method of claim 11 wherein the routing information comprises routing information to route a mobile-node-originated message that includes a multiplicity of carrier associations amongst a plurality of carriers with a multiplicity of relationships there between.

21. A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing instructions that when executed by a server in a radio communication system, perform a method comprising:

detecting values, at a server, that identify a home network value and a current network value; and

determining routing information, at a server, to route a mobile-node-originated message from a plurality of different locations within the coverage area of the radio communication system based upon the home network value, the current network value, and roaming agreement information.
