Abstract

A windscreen wiper device comprising an elastic, elongated carrier element, as well as an elongated wiper blade of a flexible material, which can be placed in abutment with a windscreen to be wiped, which wiper blade includes opposing longitudinal grooves on its longitudinal sides, in which grooves spaced-apart longitudinal strips of the carrier element are disposed, wherein neighboring ends of said longitudinal strips are interconnected by a respective connecting piece, which windscreen wiper device comprises a connecting device for an oscillating wiper arm, as well as a spoiler, a special feature of which is that the spoiler as a separate constructional element is detachably connected to the wiper blade.

Claims (14)

1. A method for manufacturing a windscreen wiper device comprising preparing a wiper blade of flexible material which can be placed into abutment with a windscreen to be cleaned having opposing longitudinal grooves formed in longitudinal sides of the wiper blade, positioning longitudinal strips of a carrier element in the grooves of the wiper blade in spaced-apart relationship, and connecting neighboring ends of the strips with respective connecting pieces; and fabricating a spoiler as a separate constructional element from that of the wiper blade from two subspoilers constructed of separate pieces of material from one another, and detachably mounting the subspoilers on the carrier element on opposite sides of a connecting device attached to the longitudinal strips, said subspoilers extending substantially from said opposite sides of said connecting device substantially to said connecting pieces.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the carrier is made of spring steel.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the carrier element is made of two strips of spring steel.

4. A method of making a windscreen wiper device comprising:

preparing a wiper blade of flexible material;

preparing a carrier element of curved spring band material having a curved shape;

supporting the wiper blade on the carrier such that the carrier biases the wiper blade to a curved shape;

mounting a connecting device to the carrier element at a location spaced from opposite longitudinal ends of the carrier element;

attaching end caps to the opposite longitudinal ends of the carrier element in longitudinally spaced relationship to the connecting device;

preparing a spoiler as a separate constructional element from that of the wiper blade from two subspoilers constructed as separate pieces of material from one another; and

mounting the subspoilers to the carrier element on longitudinally opposite sides of the connecting device to substantially span the longitudinal space between the connecting device and each of the end caps by engaging outer longitudinal side edges of the carrier element with corresponding engaging features of the subspoilers.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the subspoilers are further captured longitudinally on the carrier element between the connecting device and the connecting end caps.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein the mounting of the subspoilers is such that the subspoilers are detachable from the carrier element without first detaching the connecting device or end caps.

7. The method of claim 5 wherein the subspoilers are mounted such that the subspoilers are slidable longitudinally relative to the carrier element.
