Abstract

In some implementations, a method implemented in a user equipment UE for single carrier frequency division multiple access SC-FDMA within a wireless system includes receiving an assignment of a plurality of uplink scheduling request resources and comprising a plurality of SC-FDMA subcarriers of the wireless system. One of the plurality of uplink scheduling request resources is selected for transmission of scheduling requests. It is determined that a change in uplink scheduling request resource should be made. Upon determining that a change in scheduling request resource should be made, another of the assigned uplink scheduling request resources is selected for transmission of scheduling requests.

spreading the modulated symbols;

mapping each of the spread modulated symbols to the subcarriers used for the unscheduled shared SC-FDMA resource; and

transmitting a signal comprising the plurality of subcarriers in the wireless system.

11. A method according to claim 1 wherein said assignment of the first type of uplink scheduling request resource is received from a broadcast transmission or common signalling message transmitted by an eNB of the wireless system.

16. A method according to claim 1 , wherein SC-FDMA is used by the UE for sending uplink communication signals.

17. A method according to claim 1 , wherein a modulation scheme other than SC-FDMA is used for downlink communication signals received by the UE.

18. A user equipment UE for single carrier frequency division multiple access SC-FDMA within a wireless system, comprising:

one or more processors configured to:

receive an assignment of a first type of uplink scheduling request resource comprising a first plurality of subcarriers of the wireless system;

detect a chance in activity of the UE, wherein the chance in activity is related to one or more applications resident on the UE;

determine, in response to the detected chance in activity, that a change in uplink scheduling request resource type should be made;

upon determining that a change in scheduling request resource type should be made, select a second type of uplink scheduling request resource comprising a second plurality of subcarriers for transmission of scheduling requests, wherein one of the first type or the second type is an unscheduled shared SC-FDMA resource assigned to a plurality of UEs of the wireless system and an other of the first type or the second type is a dedicated SC-FDMA resource assigned to only the UE, wherein the second plurality of subcarriers are located within a same system bandwidth as the first plurality of subcarriers; and
