Abstract

Systems and methods communicate back-up data files to one or more data storage silos by at a customer computer, installing and running a client software; providing a system management platform coupled to the client software over the Internet; and receiving inputs from a user web portal to control operations of the client software and the system management platform to back up the customer computer.

Claims (29)

1 . A method to communicate back-up data files to one or more data storage silos, comprising:

at a customer computer, installing and running a client software;

providing a system management platform coupled to the client software over the Internet; and

receiving inputs from a user web portal to control operations of the client software and the system management platform to back up the customer computer.

2 . The method of claim 1 , comprising a backend monitoring system.

3 . The method of claim 1 , comprising receiving metrics and billing data from a billing database.

4 . The method of claim 1 , comprising backing up data to one or more shared-nothing geographically dispersed data centers.

5 . The method of claim 1 , comprising ensuring operation even if two storage nodes go down with Redundant Array of Independent Nodes 6 (RAIN-6) storage nodes.

6 . The method of claim 1 , comprising communicating with Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning and collaboratively updating and managing files on remote web servers and selecting the number of transmission threads.

8 . The method of claim 1 , comprising a configuring parallelism selection for multi-processor efficiency and high latency connections, and backing up NAS/SAN or RAID arrays with multiple disks.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the data storage silos comprises a pair of head nodes and a plurality of storage nodes.

10 . The method of claim 10 , wherein each storage node comprises a Linux computer with disks.

11 . The method of claim 10 , comprising performing whole disk mappings and creating RAID stripes across storage nodes; and

encrypting incoming data to generate clear text and saving the encrypted data over an Internet Small Computer Method Interface (iSCSI).

12 . The method of claim 12 , wherein one head node is a standby head that, upon failure of the other head node, imports all iSCSI targets, takes over a file system and virtual IP addresses and resumes operation in a fail-safe manner.

15 . The method of claim 1 , comprising restoring files through a group consisting of: the client software, a web based file browser replicating a look and feel of a native file explorer, and a remote data drive at the data storage silo mounted by a user simulating a local drive.

16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the web user portal includes modules to manage, configure, recover and report on data protection jobs.

17 . The method of claim 1 , comprising a database backup connector that automatically checkpoints a database, writes a current copy, detects and uploads sub file changes and allows for a local copy to be saved on a direct attached or network attached file system.

18 . The method of claim 1 , comprising a module to create and replicate NetApp snapshots and recreate the snapshots identically on the system backend service.

19 . The method of claim 1 , comprising a local drive synchronized with the data storage silo to maintain a local copy of back-up data.

20 . A system, comprising:

a client computer running a client back-up software;

a system management platform coupled to the client software over the Internet; and

a user web portal coupled to the client computer and the system management platform to control operations of the client software and the system management platform to back up the customer computer.

21 . The system of claim 20 , comprising means for backing up data to one or more shared-nothing geographically dispersed data centers and ensuring operation even if two storage nodes go down with Redundant Array of Independent Nodes 6 (RAIN-6) storage nodes.

22 . The system of claim 20 , comprising communicating with Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning and collaboratively updating and managing files on remote web servers and selecting the number of transmission threads.

23 . The system of claim 20 , comprising means for configuring parallelism selection for multi-processor efficiency and high latency connections, and backing up NAS/SAN or RAID arrays with multiple disks.

24 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the data storage silos comprises a pair of head nodes and a plurality of storage nodes, comprising means for performing whole disk mappings and creating RAID stripes across storage nodes and encrypting incoming data to generate clear text and saving the encrypted data over an Internet Small Computer Method Interface (iSCSI).

25 . The system of claim 24 , wherein one head node is a standby head that, upon failure of the other head node, imports all iSCSI targets, takes over a file system and virtual IP addresses and resumes operation in a fail-safe manner.
