Abstract

A duplexing unit for reversing an orientation of a sheet in an imaging apparatus, the duplexing unit includes: an outer member including an inner surface; an inner member that is housed within the outer member, the inner member including an outer surface, wherein a duplexing path is provided between the inner surface of the outer member and the outer surface of the inner member, and wherein the inner surface of the outer member has a kinetic coefficient of friction that is between 0.05 and 0.30.

Claims (35)

1 . A duplexing unit for reversing an orientation of a sheet in an imaging apparatus, the duplexing unit comprising:

an outer member including an inner surface;

an inner member that is housed within the outer member,

the inner member including an outer surface, wherein a duplexing path is provided between the inner surface of the outer member and the outer surface of the inner member, and wherein the inner surface of the outer member has a kinetic coefficient of friction that is between 0.05 and 0.30.

2 . The duplexing unit of claim 1 , wherein the inner surface of the outer member includes a film that is affixed to the outer member.

3 . The duplexing unit of claim 2 , wherein the film is a polymer film.

4 . The duplexing unit of claim 3 , wherein the polymer film includes polyethylene.

5 . The duplexing unit of claim 3 , wherein the polymer film includes a fluorocarbon.

6 . The duplexing unit of claim 3 , wherein the polymer film includes an antistatic agent.

7 . The duplexing unit of claim 2 , wherein the film has a thickness between 0.05 mm and 0.2 mm.

8 . The duplexing unit of claim 1 , wherein the outer surface of the inner member has a coefficient of kinetic friction that is between 0.05 and 0.30.

9 . The duplexing unit of claim 8 , wherein the outer surface of the inner member includes a film that is affixed to the inner member.

10 . The duplexing unit of claim 1 , wherein the inner member includes:

a stationary structural element; and

a rotatable element that is configured to rotate freely relative to the stationary structural element.

11 . A printer configured to print in a duplex mode, the printer comprising:

a media input holder;

a pick roller for advancing a sheet of recording medium from the media input holder;

a feed roller for advancing the sheet of recording medium toward a print region when rotating in a forward direction; and

a duplexing unit for reversing an orientation of the sheet of recording medium, the duplexing unit comprising:

an outer member including an inner surface;

an inner member that is housed within the outer member, the inner member including an outer surface, wherein a duplexing path is provided between the inner surface of the outer member and the outer surface of the inner member, and wherein the inner surface of the outer member has a kinetic coefficient of friction that is between 0.05 and 0.30.

12 . The printer of claim 11 , wherein the inner surface of the outer member includes a film that is affixed to the outer member.

13 . The printer of claim 12 , wherein the film is a polymer film.

14 . The printer of claim 13 , wherein the polymer film includes polyethylene.

15 . The printer of claim 13 , wherein the polymer film includes a fluorocarbon.

16 . The printer of claim 13 , wherein the film includes an antistatic agent.

17 . The printer of claim 12 , wherein the film has a thickness between 0.05 mm and 0.2 mm.

18 . The printer of claim 11 , wherein the outer surface of the inner member has a coefficient of kinetic friction that is between 0.05 and 0.30.

19 . The printer of claim 18 , wherein the outer surface of the inner member includes a film that is affixed to the inner member.

20 . The printer of claim 11 , wherein the inner member includes:

a stationary structural element; and

a rotatable element that is configured to rotate freely relative to the stationary structural element.

21 . The printer of claim 11 further comprising a duplexing roller for moving the sheet of recording medium through the duplexing unit, wherein the duplexing roller is disposed between the feed roller and the duplexing unit.

22 . The printer of claim 22 further comprising a motor for providing rotational power to the pick roller, the feed roller and the duplexing roller.
