Abstract

Information may be presented to a user by using a first application to receive a character stream of one or more noncompletion characters. The noncompletion characters indicate that additional characters may be received. The character stream is exchanged with a host that analyzes the character stream to generate results that are responsive to the user's predicted interest. Results are received and displayed so that the user may select one of the results to launch a code segment related to the selected result.

7. The method as recited in claim 5 , wherein the mobile device is a wireless phone.

8. The method as recited in claim 7 , wherein the wireless phone is running a micro-browser application on a reduced operating system.

9. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the one or more capabilities of the client computing device are at least one of a bandwidth capability, a memory capability, or a display capability.

10. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising receiving the character stream of non-completion characters into an address line of a web browser installed on the client computing device.

11. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising receiving the character stream of non-completion characters into a text entry field of a web page loaded by a web browser installed on the client computing device.

12. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the completion character is a carriage return.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including a set of instructions that, when executed, cause at least one processor to perform steps comprising:

receiving a character stream of non-completion characters input by a user at a client computing device;

determining one or more capabilities of the client computing device;

initiating a search relating to the character stream;

receiving one or more search results modified in accordance with the one or more capabilities of the client computing device; and

displaying of the one or more search results prior to input of a completion character by the user at the client computing device.

14. The computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 13 , further comprising instructions that, when executed, cause at least one processor to perform the step of indicating the one or more capabilities of the client computing device.

15. The computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 13 , wherein the one or more capabilities of the client computing device comprises a limit on an amount of data in the one or more search results.

16. The computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 13 , wherein the one or more capabilities of the client computing device comprises a limit on a number of results in the one or more search results.

17. The computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 13 , wherein the one or more capabilities of the client computing device comprises a format for the one or more search results.

18. The computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 13 , wherein the one or more capabilities of the client computing device are at least one of a bandwidth capability, a memory capability, or a display capability.

19. A method comprising:

receiving, at a server, a character stream of non-completion characters input by a user at a client computing device;

determining, using at least one processor, one or more capabilities of the client computing device;

generating one or more search results relating to the character stream;

modifying the one or more search results in accordance with the one or more capabilities of the client computing device; and

sending the one or more search results to the client computing device prior to input of a completion character by the user at the client computing device.

20. The method as recited in claim 19 , further comprising filtering the one or more search results.

21. The method as recited in claim 20 , further comprising removing multimedia from the one or more search results.

22. The method as recited in claim 21 , wherein the multimedia comprises an image.

23. The method as recited in claim 21 , wherein the multimedia comprises a video.

24. The method as recited in claim 19 , wherein determining one or more capabilities of the client computing device comprises determining a bandwidth capability of the client computing device.

25. The method as recited in claim 24 , wherein the bandwidth capability of the client computing device is a network bandwidth.

26. The method as recited in claim 19 , wherein determining one or more capabilities of the client computing device comprises determining a display capability of the client computing device.

27. The method as recited in claim 26 , wherein the display capability of the client computing device is a display size.

28. The method as recited in claim 27 , further comprising modifying the one or more search results to fit on the display size.

29. The method as recited in claim 19 , wherein modifying the one or more search results in accordance with the one or more capabilities of the client computing device comprises limiting the one or more search results to an amount of data.

30. The method as recited in claim 29 , wherein the amount of data is specified by the client computing device.

31. The method as recited in claim 19 , wherein modifying the one or more search results in accordance with the one or more capabilities of the client computing device comprises limiting the one or more search results to a number of results.

32. The method as recited in claim 31 , wherein the number of results is specified by the user.

33. The method as recited in claim 19 , wherein the client computing device is a mobile device.
