Abstract

A method and system for dynamically updating contents of a folder on a mobile device. The system comprises identifying at least a folder on the mobile device as a dynamic folder; determining at least a context parameter respective of the dynamic folder; searching for applications that can be added to the dynamic folder respective of the at least context parameter; generating an icon respective of each application found by the search; and displaying each icon respective of each application in the dynamic folder.

Claims (44)

1. A method for dynamically updating contents of a folder on a mobile device, comprising:

identifying at least one folder on the mobile device as a dynamic folder;

determining, by a remote server, at least one context parameter respective of the dynamic folder, wherein the remote server is remotely connected to the mobile device;

searching a plurality of resources of information for applications that can be added to the dynamic folder respective of the at least one context parameter;

generating, by the remote server, an icon respective of each application found through the search; and

causing, by the remote server, an automatic display of each icon respective of each application in the dynamic folder, thereby dynamically and automatically updating contents of the at least one folder on the mobile device respective of each application found through the search; and

determining, by the remote server, an appropriate name to the dynamic folder based on a category of each application in the dynamic folder that uniquely identifies the stored application, when an existing name of the dynamic folder does not correlate to the contents of the at least one application.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving at least one external parameter; and

filtering the application found by the search based on the at least one external parameter.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the external parameter characterizes at least one of: a user of the mobile device and the mobile device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the context parameter is determined based on at least one of: a name of the dynamic folder, and contents of the dynamic folder.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

identifying a category of each of the at least one application in the dynamic folder; and

setting the context parameter based on the categories of applications in the dynamic folder.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the search is performed in at least one of: the mobile device, a network, and a plurality of resources of information, wherein the network is at least the Internet, and each of the plurality of resources of information is at least one of: a search engine, a content provider server, a vertical comparison engine, a content publisher server, and a mobile application installed on the user device.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein searching the network further comprising: searching central repositories of applications.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein each application found by the search includes any one of: a native application and a web application.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein generating the icon respective of each application found in the search further comprising:

generating a different icon for any one of the native application, a resource of information, and the web application.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the at least one icon is any one of: a graphical symbol, a widget, and a gadget that causes to either activate the respective application or install the respective application on the mobile device.

11. A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon instructions for causing one or more processing units to execute the method according to claim 1 .

12. A system for dynamically updating contents of a folder on a mobile device, comprising:

an interface for receiving identification from a user that at least a folder on the mobile device is a dynamic folder;

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor configured to store a plurality of instructions that when executed configure the system to:

determine, by the system, at least one context parameter respective of the dynamic folder, wherein the system is remotely connected to the mobile device;

search for applications that can be added to the dynamic folder respective of the at least context parameter;

generate an icon respective of each application found by the search; and

cause an automatic display of each icon respective of each application in the dynamic folder, thereby dynamically and automatically updating contents of the at least one folder on the mobile device respective of each application found through the search; and

determine, by the system, an appropriate name to the dynamic folder based on a category of each application in the dynamic folder that uniquely identifies the stored application, when an existing name of the dynamic folder does not correlate to the contents of the at least one application.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

receive at least one external parameter; and

filter the application found by the search based on the at least one external parameter.

14. The system of claim 12 , wherein the context parameter is determined based on at least one of: a name of the dynamic folder, and contents of the dynamic folder.

15. The system of claim 12 , wherein the system is further configured to:

identify the category of each of application in the dynamic folder; and

set the context parameter based on the categories of applications in the dynamic folder.

16. The system of claim 12 , wherein the search is performed in at least one of: the mobile device, a network, and a plurality of resources of information, wherein the network is at least the Internet, and each of the plurality of resources of information is at least one of: a search engine, a content provider server, a vertical comparison engine, a content publisher server, and a mobile application installed on the user device.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein searching the network further comprising: searching central repositories of applications.

18. The system of claim 16 , wherein each application found by the search includes any one of: a native application and a web application.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the system is further configured to:

generate a different icon for any one of: the native application, a resource of information, and the web application.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein the at least one icon is any one of: a graphical symbol, a widget, and a gadget that causes to either activate the respective application or to install the respective application on the mobile device.
