Abstract

A wireless transmit/receive unit includes at least one processor that receives a high speed physical downlink shared channel, and in response, transmits at least one random access channel preamble followed by ACK/NACK and channel quality indicator (CQI) information. The at least one random access channel preamble is selected from a set of random access preambles reserved for the ACK/NACK and CQI information.

Claims (20)

1 . A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:

at least one processor configured to receive a high speed physical downlink shared channel; and

wherein the at least one processor is configured in response to the received high speed physical downlink shared channel to transmit at least one random access channel preamble followed by ACK/NACK and channel quality indicator (CQI) information;

wherein the at least one random access channel preamble is selected from a set of random access preambles reserved for the ACK/NACK and CQI information.

2 . The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein random access channel preambles other than the reserved random access channel preambles are used to transmit random access data without ACK/NACK and CQI information.

3 . A method implemented in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

receiving a high speed physical downlink shared channel; and

transmitting at least one random access channel preamble followed by ACK/NACK and channel quality indicator (CQI) information, in response to receiving the high speed physical downlink shared channel;

wherein the at least one random access channel preamble is selected from a set of random access preambles reserved for the ACK/NACK and CQI information.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein random access channel preambles other than the reserved random access channel preambles are used to transmit random access data without ACK/NACK and CQI information.

5 . A Node B comprising:

at least one processor configured to transmit a high speed physical downlink shared channel to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU); and

wherein the at least one processor is configured in response to the transmitted high speed physical downlink shared channel to receive at least one random access channel preamble followed by ACK/NACK and channel quality indicator (CQI) information from the WTRU;

wherein the at least one random access channel preamble is selected from a set of random access preambles reserved for the ACK/NACK and CQI information.

6 . The Node B of claim 5 , wherein random access channel preambles other than the reserved random access channel preambles are used to transmit random access data without ACK/NACK and CQI information.

7 . A method implemented in a Node B, the method comprising:

transmitting a high speed physical downlink shared channel to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU); and

receiving from the WTRU, in response to the transmitted high speed physical downlink shared channel, at least one random access channel preamble followed by ACK/NACK and channel quality indicator (CQI) information;

wherein the at least one random access channel preamble is selected from a set of random access preambles reserved for the ACK/NACK and CQI information.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein random access channel preambles other than the reserved random access channel preambles are used to transmit random access data without ACK/NACK and CQI information.
