Abstract

Integrated systems and associated method for manipulating tissues and anatomical or other structures in medical applications for the purpose of treating diseases or disorders or other purposes. In one aspect, the system includes a delivery device configured to deploy and implant anchoring devices for such purposes.

Claims (25)

1. A method for treating a prostate with an implant delivery device and an implant, the implant having a delivery configuration and a retaining configuration, comprising:

placing a distal portion of the device adjacent an interventional site;

penetrating prostatic tissue with the implant while the implant is in the delivery configuration; and

deploying the implant to the retaining configuration at least partially within prostatic capsular tissue.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein a portion of the implant invaginates in urethral tissue.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the device further comprises a penetrating member carrying the implant and prostatic tissue is penetrated via the penetrating member.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the device further comprises a positioning member and the implant is deployed via moving the positioning member with respect to the implant.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising displacing prostatic tissue.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein prostatic tissue is displaced via manipulation of the device.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising penetrating prostatic capsular tissue with the implant while the implant is in the delivery configuration.

8. The method of claim 1 further comprising penetrating anatomy adjacent the prostate with the implant while the implant is in the delivery configuration.

9. A method for retaining prostatic tissue with an implant delivery system, comprising:

accessing an interventional site with the delivery system; and

deploying a retaining member having a first configuration and a second configuration, wherein a portion of the retaining member having the second configuration is deployed to an outer surface of prostatic capsular tissue.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the delivery system comprises an elongate member and the retaining member is deployed via the elongate member.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the elongate member carries the retaining member through prostatic tissue during deployment.

12. The method of claim 10 wherein the retaining member is deployed by moving the elongate member with respect to the retaining member.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the elongate member is moved away from the retaining member.

14. The method of claim 12 wherein the configuration of the retaining member changes via the movement of the elongate member with respect to the retaining member.

15. A method for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia, comprising delivering an implant wherein at least a portion of the implant is retained in anatomy adjacent a prostate by deploying the implant through prostatic capsular tissue.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein the implant is deployed from a delivery configuration into a retaining configuration.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein the implant is deployed via a delivery member.

18. The method of claim 15 wherein at least a portion of the implant invaginates in urethral tissue.

19. The method of claim 15 further comprising delivering the implant via a penetrating member that penetrates prostatic tissue.

20. The method of claim 19 wherein the implant is deployed via the penetrating member.
