Abstract

A geomembrane liner for a containment system including liner panels and connected by a seam at overlapped edges, with the top panel having a conductive lower surface which is non-conductive across the seam. Heat welding of the seams is accomplished by a welder having a heating unit with a projection which interrupts the conductive lower surface of the top panel before forming the seam. Such seams may be used separately or selectively with a lined containment system having a plurality of liner panels covering at least a portion of the containment system bottom. The liner panels have a conductive lower surface and overlap with adjacent panels, and conductive members underlie adjacent panels and contact the conductive lower surface of both adjacent panels to provide an electrical connection between the conductive lower surfaces of the adjacent panels.

Claims (14)

1. A geomembrane liner for a containment system, comprising at least first and second liner panels having overlapping edges secured together, at least said first liner panel having a conductive lower surface, wherein said first liner panel edge is sealed on top of said second liner panel edge along a first line wherein said first liner panel is non-conductive across said first line.

2. The geomembrane liner of claim 1 , wherein said first liner panel edge is sealed on top of said second liner panel edge along a second line spaced from said first line, wherein said first liner panel is non-conductive across said second line.

3. The geomembrane liner of claim 1 , wherein said geomembrane panels comprise a non-conductive member with an integral conductive media on the lower surface of the non-conductive member.

4. The geomembrane liner of claim 2 wherein said geomembrane panels comprise a non-conductive member with an integral conductive media on the lower surface of the non-conductive member.

5. A lined containment system comprising a plurality of liner panels covering at least a portion of the containment system and including a geomembrane liner according to claim 1 .

6. A lined containment system comprising a plurality of liner panels covering at least a portion of the containment system and including a geomembrane liner according to claim 2 .

7. A method of testing a geomembrane liner of claim 1 for leaks, comprising measuring electric potential across the liner at a plurality of points on its surface.

8. A lined containment system comprising:

a plurality of liner panels covering at least a portion of the containment system, each liner panel comprising a geomembrane having a conductive lower surface with adjacent panels having overlapping edges secured together by a seam, wherein said adjacent panels having overlapping edges include one panel overlying the other of the adjacent panels with the lower surface of the one panel being non-conductive across said seam; and

conductive members underlying adjacent panels, said conductive members contacting the conductive lower surface of both adjacent panels to provide a conductive layer with an electrical connection between the conductive lower surfaces of the adjacent panels.

9. The lined containment system of claim 8 , wherein said conductive layer comprises a section of a geomembrane having a conductive upper surface.

10. The lined containment system of clam 8 , wherein said conductive layer comprises a grid of conductive media.

11. The lined containment system of claim 10 , wherein said conductive media comprises wires.

12. The lined containment system of claim 10 , wherein said conductive media comprises sections of geomembranes having a conductive upper surface.
