Abstract

Described herein is a mold. The mold includes a first mold half and a second mold half. A molding cavity is definable between the first mold half and the second mold half within which a molded article is moldable. The mold also includes a core configured to form a seal on the molded article. The first mold half and the second mold half are configured to remain in a mold closed configuration with molding and stripping of the molded article.

Claims (11)

1. A method of molding a container closure, comprising:

positioning a first mold half and a second mold half relative to each other into a mold closed configuration, at least one of the first mold half and the second mold half defining a molding cavity;

maintaining the mold halves in the mold closed configuration and thereafter, in order:

a. positioning a core having at least one radially external feature therearound within the molding cavity;

b. injecting the molding material into the molding cavity, allowing the molding material to flow around the at least one radially external feature, to form a container closure with a corresponding at least one radially internal feature;

c. withdrawing the core along with the container closure attached to the core via engagement of the at least one radially external feature on the core and the at least one radially internal feature in the container closure from the molding cavity while the mold halves remain in the mold closed configuration; and

d. stripping the container closure from the core while the mold halves remain in the mold closed configuration.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein positioning the core in the molding cavity comprises positioning a core having radially external threads within the molding cavity.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein positioning the core in the molding cavity comprises positioning a core having a seal feature within the molding cavity wherein injecting the material into the molding cavity comprises flowing the molding material around the seal feature to form the container closure with a corresponding seal.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

operating an in-mold shutter to selectively engage, in use, a first mold shoe of the first mold half with which the core is associated to one of a moving platen and a stationary platen of a mold clamping assembly.
