Abstract

A device is described. The device comprising: a first processor and a first display coupled to the first processor, the first processor being configured to generate first display data, pertaining to elements of a first active application currently being executed on the device, for display on the first display, and generate link data pertaining to a subset of the elements of the first active application; wherein the first processor is configured to output the generated link data to a second display. A system and method are also described.

Claims (61)

1. A device comprising:

a first processor and a first display coupled to the first processor, the first processor being configured to:

generate first display data, pertaining to elements of a first active application currently being executed on the device, for display on the first display,

generate link data pertaining to a subset of the elements of the first active application,

determine whether the first display data can be properly displayed on the first display, and

output the link data to a second display if the first display data cannot be properly displayed on the first display,

wherein the first processor is configured to receive capability data from the second display and to generate the link data based on the received capability data.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first processor is configured to interrogate the first active application and obtain data on the elements of the first active application and to generate the link data based on the obtained data on the elements of the first active application.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the link data comprises data to allow an application to be launched on the second display.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the link data comprises one or more of application type, contents of a user editable field, displayed icons, or user settings.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the link data comprises second display data pertaining to elements of the first active application for display on the second display.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the link data comprises second display data pertaining to the first active application for display on the second display.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first processor is configured to receive link data pertaining to a subset of elements of a second active application executed on the second display and to launch an application on the device based on the received link data.

8. The device of claim 7 , wherein the first processor is configured to receive the link data in response to communication being terminated between the device and the second display.

9. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first processor is configured to generate the link data in response to communication being established between the device and the second display.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the capability data pertains to a display capability of the second display.

11. The device of claim 1 , wherein the capability data pertains to a processing capability of the second display.

12. The device claim 1 , wherein the first processor is configured to remove data pertaining to one or more elements from the link data.

13. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first processor is configured to disregard one or more of the elements when generating the link data.

14. A system comprising a first device and a second device in communication with the first device,

the first device including a first processor and a first display coupled to the first processor, the first processor being configured to:

filter application data of a first active application to only include the application data that cannot be viewed on the first display,

generate first display data, pertaining to elements of the first active application currently being executed on the first device,

storing elements of the first active application within a memory of the first device for a given period,

generate link data pertaining to a subset of the elements of the first active application, and

output, prior to elapse of the given period, the link data to the second device; and

the second device including a second processor and a second display coupled to the second processor, the second processor being configured to:

receive the link data from the first device, and

output display data to the second display based on the link data,

wherein the first processor receives capability data from the second display and generates the link data based on the received capability data.

15. A method for a device comprising the steps of:

generating first display data, pertaining to elements of a first active application currently being executed on the device;

determining that the first display data cannot be displayed on a first display;

storing elements of the first active application within a memory of the device for a given period of time;

receiving capability data from a second display;

generating link data pertaining to a subset of the elements of the first active application, the link data based on the received capability data; and

outputting, at any time during the given period, the link data to the second display.

16. The method of claim 15 , comprising the step of interrogating the first active application and obtaining data on the elements of the first active application, and generating the link data based on the obtained data on the elements of the first active application.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the link data comprises data to allow an application to be launched on the second display.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the link data comprises one or more of application type, contents of a user editable field, displayed icons, or user settings.

19. The method of claim 15 , wherein the link data comprises second display data pertaining to elements of the first active application for display on the second display.

20. The method of claim 15 , wherein the link data comprises second display data pertaining to the first active application for display on the second display.

21. The method of claim 15 , comprising the steps of receiving link data pertaining to a subset of elements of a second active application executed on the second display and launching an application on the device based on the received link data.

22. The method of claim 21 , wherein the step of receiving the link data is in response to communication being terminated between the device and the second display.

23. The method of claim 15 , comprising the step of generating the link data in response to communication being established between the device and the second display.

24. The method of claim 15 , wherein the capability data pertains to a display capability of the second display device.

25. The method of claim 15 , wherein the capability data pertains to a processing capability of the second display device.

26. The method of claim 15 , comprising the step of removing data pertaining to one or more elements from the link data.

27. The method of claim 15 , comprising the step of disregarding one or more of the elements when generating the link data.

28. A method for a system comprising a first device and a second display in communication with the first device, the method comprising the steps of:

the first device generating display data, pertaining to elements of an active application currently being executed on the first device;

the first device generating link data pertaining to a subset of the elements of the active application;

the first device determining whether the display data can be properly displayed on a display of the first device; and

the first device outputting the link data to a second display if the display data cannot be properly displayed on the first display,

wherein the first device is configured to receive capability data from the second display and to generate the link data based on the received capability data.

29. A computer-readable, non-transitory medium comprising executable instructions which, when executed, cause a processor to perform a method comprising the steps of:

generating display data, pertaining to elements of an active application currently being executed on a device, for presentation on a display of the device;

generating link data pertaining to a subset of the elements of the active application;

determining whether the display data can be properly displayed on the display of the device; and

outputting the link data to a second display if the display data cannot be properly displayed on the display of the device,

wherein the device is configured to receive capability data from the second display and to generate the link data based on the received capability data.
