Abstract

Methods and devices are provided for fixing a ligament graft in a bone tunnel. In general, the methods and devices involve affixing a ligament graft within a bone tunnel using an adhesive. A fixation device can be inserted through the ligament graft in a direction transverse to an axis of the tunnel to maintain the ligament graft in contact with the adhesive. The fixation device can be removed when the adhesive is cured such that the ligament graft is fixed in the tunnel.

Claims (13)

1. A method for fixing a ligament graft in a bone tunnel, comprising:

coupling an anchor to a bone graft with a ligament attached thereto;

introducing the anchor and bone graft into a bone tunnel;

introducing an adhesive into the bone tunnel;

inserting a fixation device through a portion of the anchor disposed in the bone tunnel to temporarily maintain a location of the bone graft with respect to the bone tunnel; and

removing the fixation device once the adhesive has cured sufficiently to maintain a location of the bone graft with respect to the bone tunnel.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the anchor includes a first portion that is adhered to the bone tunnel, and a second portion that mates to the bone graft.

The method of claim 2 , wherein the first portion includes a post with an eyelet formed on a terminal end thereof, and wherein introducing the anchor and bone graft into a bone tunnel comprises attaching a suture to the eyelet, and tensioning the suture to pull the bone graft into the bone tunnel.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the second portion is threaded into the bone graft.

5. The method of claim 2 , wherein the second portion is mated to the bone graft using sutures.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the second portion includes opposed arms, and wherein the bone graft is mated to the opposed arms by passing at least one suture through the opposed arms and through the bone graft.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the bone tunnel comprises a femoral tunnel formed in a femur, and wherein introducing an adhesive into the bone tunnel comprises injecting the adhesive through a transverse tunnel that extends into the femoral tunnel.

8. The method of claim 2 , wherein the first portion includes a post with an eyelet formed on a terminal end thereof, and wherein the adhesive extends around the post and into the eyelet to secure the anchor within the bone tunnel.
