Abstract

Methods, apparatus, and systems for funding transactions disclosed herein may operate to configure a plurality of backup funding sources for a primary funding source, and enable a consumer associated with the primary funding source to select at least one backup funding source among the plurality of backup funding sources. A request to fund a transaction associated with the primary funding source may be received, and the transaction may be funded using funds from at least one of the primary funding source and the at least one selected backup funding source.

Claims (36)

1. A system comprising:

a processor-implemented backup funding management module configured to:

configure a plurality of backup funding sources for a primary funding source;

determine a maximum backup funding limit for each of the plurality of backup funding sources;

enable a consumer associated with the primary funding source to select at least one backup funding source among the plurality of backup funding sources;

receive a request to fund a transaction associated with the primary funding source; and

fund the transaction using funds from at least one of the primary funding source and the at least one selected backup funding source.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the backup funding management module is configured to enable the consumer to select the at least one backup handing source before receiving the request to fund the transaction.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the backup funding management module is configured to enable the consumer to select the at least one backup funding source in response to receiving the request to fund the transaction.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of backup funding sources is associated with a different institution.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the primary funding source is associated with a first institution and the at least one backup funding source is associated with a second institution.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the backup funding management module is further configured to perform a risk analysis for the transaction.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of backup funding sources comprises at least one of a checking account, a savings account, a credit card account, a home equity loan account, and a student loan account.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the primary funding source comprises a debit account.

9. A method comprising:

configuring, using at least one processor, a plurality of backup funding sources for a primary funding source;

determining a maximum backup funding limit for each of the plurality of backup funding sources;

enabling a consumer associated with the primary funding source to select at least one backup funding source among the plurality of backup funding sources;

receiving a request to fund a transaction associated with the primary funding source; and

funding the transaction using funds from at least one of the primary funding source and the at least one selected backup funding source.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the enabling the consumer to select the at least one backup funding source comprises enabling the consumer to select the at least one backup funding source before receiving the request to fund the transaction.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the enabling the consumer to select the at least one backup binding source comprises enabling the consumer to select the at least one backup funding source in response to receiving the request to fund the transaction.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein each of the plurality of backup binding sources is associated with a different institution.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein the primary binding source is associated with a first institution and the at least one backup funding source is associated with a second institution.

14. The method of claim 9 , further comprising performing a risk analysis for the transaction.

15. The method of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of backup funding sources comprises at least one of a checking account, a savings account, a credit card account, at home equity loan account, and a student loan account.

16. The method of claim 9 , wherein the primary funding source comprises a debit account.

17. A non-transitory machine-readable storage device storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

configuring a plurality of backup funding sources for a primary funding source;

determining a maximum backup funding limit for each of the plurality of backup funding sources;

enabling a consumer associated with the primary funding source to select at least one backup funding source among the plurality of backup funding sources;

receiving a request to fund a transaction associated with the primary funding source; and

funding the transaction using funds from at least one of the primary funding source and the at least one selected backup funding source.

18. The non-transitory machine-readable storage device of claim 17 , wherein the enabling the consumer to select the at least one backup funding source comprises enabling the consumer to select the at least one backup funding source before receiving the request to fund the transaction.

19. The non-transitory machine-readable storage device of claim 17 , wherein the enabling the consumer to select the at least one backup funding source comprises enabling the consumer to select the at least one backup funding source in response to receiving the request to fund the transaction.

20. The non-transitory machine-readable storage device of claim 17 , wherein the primary funding source is associated with a first institution and the at least one backup funding source is associated with a second institution.
