Abstract

Provided is a treated platy substrate, a method of making it, and methods of using it. The substrate can be synthetic mica, optionally comprising metal-oxide layers. The treated platy substrate is useful in cosmetic compositions.

Claims (9)

1. A cosmetic composition comprising a treated platy substrate comprising a platy substrate coated with Nε-lauroyl-L-lysine and a particulate component having a gritty feeling and wherein the treated platy substrate is present in an amount sufficient to mask the gritty feeling;

wherein:

the platy substrate is synthetic mica without a metal oxide coating that comprises ≦0.26 ppm arsenic; ≦25 ppm barium; ≦0.25 ppm cadmium; ≦0.59 ppm cobalt; ≦2.0 ppm chromium; ≦24.6 ppm copper; ≦0.10 ppm mercury; ≦3.1 ppm nickel; ≦1.0 ppm lead; and ≦0.25 ppm antimony; and

a particle size distribution of the treated platy substrate ranges from about 15 μm to about 90 μm.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the Nε-lauroyl-L-lysine coating is present on the surface of the platy substrate in the range of about 0.5% to about 15% by weight of the platy substrate.

3. The composition of claim 2 , wherein the Nε-lauroyl-lysine coating is present on the surface of the platy substrate in the range of about 4% to about 6% by weight of the platy substrate.

4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the treated platy substrate has a thickness from about 0.1 μm to about 10 μm.

5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises at least one auxiliary agent.

6. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more of octyldodecyl neopentanoate, meadowfoam estolide, methylpropanediol, magnesium aluminum silicate, xanthan gum, isodecyl neopentanoate, polymethyl methacrylate, pentaerythrityl tetraisostearate, bis-diglyceryl polyacyladipate-2, acetylated lanolin alcohol, sorbitan tristearate, caprylyl methicone, isododecane, sodium laureth sulfate, cocamidopropyl betaine, disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, aminomethyl propanol, and cyclopentasiloxane.
