Abstract

A first user interface may be presented comprising a single selection option that enables recording of multiple television channels. A first user input, in response to the first user interface may be received enabling the option for recording of the multiple television channels. Data indicating a time period during which a television channel of the multiple television channels is to be recorded may be received from a television service provider. A record timer for the television channel of the multiple television channels may be set based on the user input enabling recording of multiple television channels and the data indicating the time period. The television channel of the multiple television channels may be recorded based on the record timer.

Claims (42)

1. A television receiver configured to record television channels, the television receiver comprising:

a tuner;

one or more processors; and

a memory communicatively coupled with and readable by the one or more processors and having stored therein processor-readable instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

cause a first user interface to be presented via a display device, the first user interface comprising a single selection option that enables recording of multiple television channels, wherein:

each of the multiple television channels are transmitted as part of a single transponder stream that is configured to be received by the tuner; and

each of the multiple television channels is associated with a different video packet identifier (PID);

receive a first user input, in response to the first user interface, that enables the single selection option wherein the single selection option recording of the multiple television channels;

receive, from the television service provider, data indicating time periods during which the multiple television channels are to be recorded when the single selection option is enabled, wherein each record timer of the plurality of record timers causes multiple television programs to be recorded;

set a plurality of record timers for the multiple television channels based on enablement of the single selection option and the data indicating time periods received from the television service provider, wherein each record timer of the plurality of record timers causes multiple television programs to be recorded; and

cause the multiple television channels to be recorded based on the plurality of record timers.

2. The television receiver configured to record television channels of claim 1 , wherein the processor-readable instructions configured to cause the one or more processors to set the record timer comprises processor-readable instructions configured to cause the one or more processors to:

receive, from the television service provider, data indicating time periods for a day during which each television channel of the multiple television channels are to be recorded, wherein on the day each time period overlaps, thereby defining an overlapping time period;

set record timers for each television channel of the multiple television channels based on the user input enabling recording of multiple television channels and the time periods; and

cause each television channel of the multiple television channels to be recorded based on the record timers, wherein each television channel of the multiple television channels is received by the television receiver using the tuner during the overlapping time period.

3. The television receiver configured to record television channels of claim 2 , wherein the processor-readable instructions configured to cause the one or more processors to set the record timer comprises processor-readable instructions configured to cause the one or more processors to:

after setting the record timers for each television channel of the multiple television channels, receive a second user input disabling the option for recording of the multiple television channels; and

in response to the second user input, disable timers for each television channel of the multiple television channels that were set based on the user input enabling recording of multiple television channels and the data indicating the time periods received from the television service provider.

4. The television receiver configured to record television channels of claim 1 , wherein each television channel of the multiple television channels is associated with a different audio packet identifier.

5. A method for recording television channels, the method comprising:

causing, by a television receiver, a first user interface to be presented via a display device, the first user interface comprising a single selection option that enables recording of the multiple television channels, wherein:

each of the multiple television channels are transmitted as part of a single transponder stream that is configured to be received by a tuner of the television receiver; and

each of the multiple television channels is associated with a different video packet identifier (PID);

receiving, by the television receiver, a first user input, in response to the first user interface, that enables the single selection option wherein the single selection option enables recording of the multiple television channels;

receiving, by the television receiver from the television service provider, data indicating time periods during which the multiple television channels are to be recorded when the single selection option is enabled, wherein each record timer of the plurality of record timers causes multiple television programs to be recorded;

setting, by the television receiver, a plurality of record timers for the multiple television channels based on enablement of the single selection option and the data indicating time periods received from the television service provider, wherein each record timer of the plurality of record timers causes multiple television programs to be recorded; and

recording, by the television receiver, the multiple television channels based on the plurality of record timers.

6. The method for recording television channels of claim 5 , the method further comprising:

receiving, by the television receiver from the television service provider, data indicating time periods for a day during which each television channel of the multiple television channels are to be recorded, wherein on the day each time period overlaps, thereby defining an overlapping time period;

setting, by the television receiver, record timers for each television channel of the multiple television channels based on the user input enabling recording of multiple television channels and the time periods; and

recording, by the television receiver each television channel of the multiple television channels based on the record timers, wherein each television channel of the multiple television channels is received by the television receiver using the tuner during the overlapping time period.

7. The method for recording television channels of claim 6 , the method further comprising:

after setting the record timers for each television channel of the multiple television channels, receiving, by the television receiver, a second user input disabling the option for recording of the multiple television channels; and

in response to the second user input, disabling, by the television receiver, timers for each television channel of the multiple television channels that were set based on the user input enabling recording of multiple television channels and the data indicating the time periods received from the television service provider.

8. A non-transitory processor-readable medium for recording television channels, comprising processor-readable instructions configured to cause one or more processors to:

cause a first user interface to be presented via a display device, the first user interface comprising a single selection option that enables recording of the multiple television channels, wherein

each of the multiple television channels are transmitted as part of a single transponder stream that is configured to be received by the tuner; and

each of the multiple television channels is associated with a different video packet identifier (PID);

receive a first user input, in response to the first user interface, that enables the single selection option wherein the single selection option enables recording of the multiple television channels;

receive, from the television service provider, data indicating time periods during which the multiple television channels are to be recorded when the single selection option is enabled, wherein each record timer of the plurality of record timers causes multiple television programs to be recorded;

set a plurality of record timers for the multiple television channels based on enablement of the single selection option and the data indicating time periods received from the television service provider, wherein each record timer of the plurality of record timers causes multiple television programs to be recorded; and

cause the multiple television channels to be recorded based on the plurality of record timers.
