Abstract

An embodiment of a uterine hemorrhage controlling system comprises a suction module including a suction end coupleable to a pump by a connecting tube, and a sealing module coupled to the suction module. The system may further comprise the pump and a filter coupled to the suction module. A uterine hemorrhage controlling method comprises: shielding a suction module that has been delivered into a uterus; sealing an entrance into the uterus while the suction module is situated within the uterus; applying a negative pressure within the uterus upon activation of a pump; and maintaining the negative pressure within the uterus to induce uterine contraction. The method may further comprise delivering the suction module into the uterus; transmitting bodily fluids, out of the uterus through the suction module, and filtering the bodily fluids.

Claims (30)

1. A device comprising:

a connecting portion of a tube, the connecting portion comprising a joint comprising a first port and a second port, the connecting portion configured to be coupled to a pump that when activated generates a negative pressure;

a suction portion of the tube insertable into a uterus, the suction portion comprising:

a first loop comprising an opening defined along a medial surface of the first loop, the first loop comprising a first end and a second end that are directly coupled to the first and the second ports of the joint of the connecting portion respectively, the opening oriented away from an interior wall of the uterus upon delivery of the suction portion into the uterus during use;

a flexible membrane physically coupled to the tube;

wherein activation of the pump generates negative pressure at both ends of the first loop coupled to the connecting portion, thereby retracting a uterine wall.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first loop comprises a plurality of additional openings defined along the medial surface of the first loop, the additional openings oriented away from the interior wall of the uterus upon delivery of the suction portion into uterus.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the suction portion comprises a flexible material.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the suction portion comprises a filter within the opening and operable to affect intrauterine material motion into the opening.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the opening of the suction portion extends from both ports of the connecting portion.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the flexible membrane comprises a porous material that is operable between an expanded state and a contracted state based on an absorption of a fluid.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein a separation distance between the flexible membrane and a terminal region of the suction portion positions the flexible membrane in a cervical region when the suction portion is inserted into the uterus.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the flexible membrane comprises a concave configuration in an operation mode.

9. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a pump comprising a valve operable to adjust flow of intrauterine material from the tube.

10. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a collection container fluidly coupled to the connecting portion, the device comprising a monitoring mode for measuring blood loss from the uterus.

11. The device of claim 1 , wherein the suction portion comprises a unitary construction.

12. The device of claim 1 , wherein the flexible membrane expands or extends in at least one of radially, axially, uniformly, non-uniformly, isotropically, non-isotropically during use.

13. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a second suction portion that is directly coupled to the joint of the connecting portion, and wherein the second suction portions forms a second loop that extends in a wider loop than the first loop.

14. The device of claim 13 , wherein the second suction portion comprises at least one opening defined along its medial surface and oriented away from the interior wall of the uterus upon delivery of the second suction portion into the uterus during use.

15. The device of claim 1 , wherein the flexible membrane comprises a balloon operable between an expanded mode and a contracted mode, the balloon comprising an inlet for receiving a fluid in the expanded mode and for delivering the fluid in the contracted mode.

16. The device of claim 15 , wherein the inlet is fluidly coupled to a delivery conduit that delivers at least one of a gas and a fluid into the balloon, and wherein the delivery conduit comprises a delivery tube that runs parallel with the tube.

17. The device of claim 15 , wherein the balloon is physically coextensive with the connecting portion and substantially surrounds the connecting portion at a location on the connecting portion.

18. The device of claim 1 , wherein the device further comprises:

a deformable member physically coupled to the flexible membrane.

19. The device of claim 18 , wherein the deformable member is elastically deformable.

20. The device of claim 18 , wherein the flexible membrane is operable between a radially expanded mode and a radially contracted mode.

21. The device of claim 18 , wherein the flexible membrane is operable between an axially expanded mode and an axially contracted mode.

22. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a shield physically coupled to the tube, the shield operable to limit tissue obstruction into the opening.

23. The device of claim 22 , wherein the shield is composed of a polymer material.

24. The device of claim 22 , wherein the shield comprises one of a conical, pyramidal, and a bulbous cage shape.
