Abstract

A system for (a) determining a first direction from a first device toward a second device based on a first set of WiFi® wireless signals received by at least one antenna of the first device from the second device, (b) determining a second direction from a third device toward the second device based on a second set of WiFi® wireless signals received by at least one antenna of the third device from the second device, and (c) based at least on a first location of the first device, the first direction from the first device toward the second device, a second location of the third device, and the second direction from the third device toward the second device: determining a third location of the second device.

Claims (48)

1. A computer implemented method, comprising:

receiving first information at a network device, wherein the first information corresponds to a client device, and wherein the first information is associated with a first wireless signal received at a first access point;

identifying a first direction using the first information to determine a first projection in the first direction from the first access point;

receiving second information, wherein the second information corresponds to the client device, and wherein the second information is associated with a second wireless signal received at a second access point;

identifying a second direction using the second information to determine a second projection in the second direction from the second access point;

identifying intersection data based on the first direction and the second direction to determine an intersection point between the first projection and the second projection; and

determining a location of the client device using the intersection data by determination of a relative position offset and reference of the relative position offset to known coordinates.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a location of the first access point, wherein identifying intersection data includes using the location of the first access point.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a location of the first access point, wherein identifying the location of the first access point includes identifying a direction between the first access point and the second access point or a distance between the first access point and the second access point.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a distance between the first access point and the client device, wherein determining the location of the client device includes using the distance.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first information is received using an adaptive array antenna of the first access point.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first information is received using a directional antenna of the first access point, and wherein the first information is based on modification of a physical orientation of the directional antenna.

7. A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

a non-transitory computer readable storage medium communicatively coupled to the one or more processors, wherein the non-transitory computer readable storage medium includes instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

receive first information at a network device, wherein the first information corresponds to a client device, and wherein the first information is associated with a first wireless signal received at a first access point;

identify a first direction using the first information;

receive second information, wherein the second information corresponds to the client device, and wherein the second information is associated with a second wireless signal received at a second access point;

identify a second direction using the second information;

determine an intersection point between a first projection in the first direction from the first access point and a second projection in the second direction from the second access point and

determine a location of the client device using the intersection data by determination of a relative position offset and referencing the relative position offset to known coordinates.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the operations further include to:

identify a location of the first access point and to use the location of the first access point to identify the intersection data.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein the operations further include to:

identify a location of the first access point and identify a direction between the first access point and the second access point or a distance between the first access point and the second access point to identify the location of the first access point.

10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the operations further include to:

identify a distance between the first access point and the client device and

use the identified distance to determine the location of the client device.

11. The system of claim 7 , wherein the first information is received by an adaptive array antenna of the first access point.

12. The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the first information is received by a directional antenna of the first access point; and

the first information is based on modification of a physical orientation of the directional antenna.

13. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

receive first information at a network device, wherein the first information corresponds to a client device, and wherein the first information is associated with a first wireless signal received at a first access point;

identify a first direction using the first information;

receive second information, wherein the second information corresponds to the client device, and wherein the second information is associated with a second wireless signal received at a second access point;

identify a second direction using the second information;

determine an intersection point between a first projection in the first direction from the first access point and a second projection in the second direction from the second access point; and

determine a location of the client device using the intersection data by determination of a relative position offset and referencing the relative position offset to known coordinates.

14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

identify a location of the first access point; and

use the location of the first access point to identify the intersection data.

15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

identify a location of the first access point; and

identify a direction between the first access point and the second access point or a distance between the first access point and the second access point to identify the location of the first access point.
