10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein a source of the selected signal is one or more of an on board sensor, an on board system controller, an on board processing module, an on board sensor monitor, an on board gateway and/or firewall, a communication device using a communication network external to the vehicle, a portable communication device of a vehicle occupant, the portable communication device currently being located within the vehicle, an occupant input system, and an occupant output system.

11 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the plural networks are generated by an on board or portable component located physically within the vehicle.

12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the source of the selected signal is one or more of on board sensor, an on board system controller, an on board processing module, an on board sensor monitor, an on board gateway and/or firewall, an occupant input system, and an occupant output system.

13 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the network selector determines, for each of the plural communication networks, a corresponding one or more of a network status, a node status, a signal/noise ratio, an available and/or unavailable bandwidth, a current performance parameter(s), and a quality of service and selects the selected network based on one or more relative values associated with the corresponding one or more of a network status, a node status, a signal/noise ratio, an available and/or unavailable bandwidth, a current performance parameter(s), and a quality of service.
