Abstract

A computer-implemented method comprising the steps of receiving, at a user electronic device from a computer system including at least one computer, a media work and one or more associated tags; receiving, at the user electronic device from a user input device, a query related to at least one of the one or more associated tags; obtaining, at the user electronic device, instructions for an action to be performed based on the query; and performing, at the user electronic device, the associated action, in response to the query.

Claims (24)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, at a user electronic device from a computer system including at least one computer, an electronic media work comprising audio and/or video along with one or more associated tags;

displaying, by the user electronic device, the electronic media work;

generating, at the user electronic device as a result of input from a user input device, a request related to at least one of the one or more associated tags;

sending the request from the user electronic device to the computer system;

receiving, at the user electronic device from the computer system in response to the request, machine-readable instructions generated at the computer system for an action to be performed and based upon associated information stored by the computer system related to the action to be performed in association with one or more electronic media works, wherein the associated information is determined by the computer system using a non-exhaustive, near-neighbor search to correlate the electronic media work with an electronic media work identifier associated with the associated information; and

performing, at the user electronic device, the action using the machine-readable instructions.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the action comprises electronically providing at least one of a coupon or a certificate related to the electronic media work.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the action comprises allowing a user associated with the user electronic device to interact with a video stream related to the electronic media work.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the action comprises presenting a user associated with the user electronic device questions about the electronic media work.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the action comprises presenting a user associated with the user electronic device with additional information associated with the electronic media work.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the additional information is related to one or more products or services.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the additional information is related to names of the one or more products or services.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the additional information is related to a product category associated with the one or more products or services.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the additional information is related to a manufacturer of the one or more products or services.

10. The method of claim 6 , wherein the additional information is related to a website associated with the one or more products or services.

11. The method of claim 6 , wherein the additional information is related to an article of clothing.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic media work and the tag are received by the computer system from a second user electronic device.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user electronic device is at least one of a television, a set-top-box, a video recorder, a computer, a cell phone, a remote control, or a portable device.

14. The method of claim 5 , wherein the additional information comprises an advertisement.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the action comprises electronically registering a user associated with the user electronic device with at least one of a service or a product related to the advertisement.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the action comprises electronically providing at least one of a coupon or a certificate related to the advertisement.

17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the action comprises allowing a user associated with the user electronic device to interact with a video stream related to the advertisement.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the action comprises displaying additional information on the user electronic device.
