Abstract

Exposed fixture mechanism (or exposed fixture mechanism) and associated mounting features constituting a broad range of structural, aesthetic, and/or functional enhancements to existing recessed fixtures. Embodiments are generally configured to couple at a structural surface at and/or surrounding a recessed fixture. A mounting ring provides secure attachment at the structural surface, A ring cover with or without an exposed fixture mechanism (EFM) typically is coupled to the mounting ring surrounding the recessed fixture via a variety of mechanisms including but not limited to a twist-lock engagement, magnets, screws, or snap on mechanisms. EFMs include a wide variety of aesthetic, functional, and/or structural embodiments.

Claims (29)

1 . An improved recessed fixture conversion apparatus, comprising:

a mounting ring having a first side and an opposing second side, the mounting ring including a central opening disposed through a relative center of the mounting ring from a first side thereof to the second side thereof; and the first side being affixed to a surface around a recessed fixture.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a ring cover having a first side and a second side including: the first side coupled with the mounting ring, having one or more openings disposed through the ring cover from the first side thereof to the second side thereof.

3 . The apparatus of claim 2 , further comprising: an exposed fixture mechanism coupled at the second side of the ring cover.

The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising: one or more conductive lines having a first end extending beyond the first side of the ring cover and a second end extending beyond the second side of the ring cover, wherein the conductive line is configured to convey either or both of light and electricity from the first end of the conductive line to the second end thereof.

The apparatus of claim 4 , further comprising: the conductive lines having a first end configured to operably couple with the electrical source in the recessed fixture, extending beyond the first side of the ring cover and a second end extending beyond the second side of the ring cover and is configured to operably couple with an exposed fixture mechanism.

6 . The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein one of the conductive lines is an optical waveguide, and wherein the first end of the optical waveguide is configured to convey beyond the second side of the ring cover light from a light source located beyond the first side of the ring cover.

7 . The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the first end of the conductive line is configured to operably couple with an electrical source beyond the first side of the ring cover.

8 . The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a light re-directing device.

9 . The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a pendant fixture.

10 . The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a light emitting device.

11 . The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a motorized device.

12 . The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a semi-pendant fixture.

13 . The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a fixture including a diffuser or light modifying materials held apart from the ring cover using an intermediary structure.

14 . The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism an electronic device.

15 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising an exposed fixture mechanism having a first side coupled with the mounting ring.

The apparatus of claim 15 , further comprising: one or more conductive lines having a first end extending beyond the first side of the ring cover and a second end extending beyond the second side of the ring cover, wherein the conductive line is configured to convey either or both of light and electricity from the first end of the conductive line to the second end thereof.

The apparatus of claim 16 , further comprising: the conductive lines having a first end configured to operably couple with the electrically operable device in the recessed fixture, extending beyond the first side of the ring cover and a second end extending beyond the second side of the ring cover and is configured to operably couple with an exposed fixture mechanism.

18 . The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein one of the conductive lines is an optical waveguide, and wherein the first end of the optical waveguide is configured to convey beyond the second side of the ring cover light from a light source located beyond the first side of the ring cover.

19 . The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the first end of the conductive line is configured to operably couple with an electrically operable device beyond the first side of the ring cover.

20 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a light re-directing device.

21 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a pendant fixture.

22 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a light emitting device.

23 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a motorized device.

24 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a semi-pendant fixture.

25 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism comprises a fixture including a diffuser or light modifying materials held apart from the ring cover using an intermediary structure.

26 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the exposed fixture mechanism an electronic device.

27 . An improved recessed fixture conversion apparatus, comprising: an exposed fixture mechanism having a first side that affixes to the surface around a recessed fixture and at least one opposing side that extends beyond the surface.

28 . The apparatus of claim 27 including a fixture that modifies the light emitting from the recessed can.
