Abstract

An optimization engine allows website publishers and other network document publishers to view and navigate statistics and scoring methodologies of a search engine. Publishers may thus gain a better understanding of how their website or network document is scored and how to optimize those documents to increase a search engine score. The user is thus able to navigate the network from the perspective of a search engine, viewing webpages, websites, and links in the same way a search engine would analyze them. Upon making changes to a website or network document, publishers may further request on-demand re-crawling of their website or network document to view changes in the score. Alerts may also be activated by a user to notify the user when certain conditions are met.

Claims (32)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving input corresponding to a search request for one or more network documents;

receiving, by a computing device, a list of one or more search results in response to the search request; and

generating, by the computing device, a search result display including a search engine optimization option and the list of one or more search results, wherein the search engine optimization option is configured to direct a user to a visualization of a manner in which a search engine processes at least one of the one or more search results, and wherein the manner in which the search engine processes the at least one of the one or more search results is not user-configurable beyond user specification of one or more search terms and a network document identifier.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the search result display is generated in a network document browser and the search engine optimization option is generated by an extension application of the network document browser.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein generating the search result display includes:

adding a plurality of search engine optimization options, each of the plurality of search engine optimization options corresponding to a different one of a plurality of search results.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a request to generate a search engine score for a search result of the one or more search results; and

generating the visualization of the manner in which the search engine processes the search result of the one or more search results on-demand.

5 . A non-transitory machine readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause an apparatus to:

receive input corresponding to a search request for one or more network documents;

receive a list of one or more search results in response to the search request; and

generate a search result display including a search engine optimization option and the list of one or more search results, wherein the search engine optimization option is configured to direct a user to a visualization of a manner in which a search engine processes at least one of the one or more search results, and wherein the manner in which the search engine processes the at least one of the one or more search results is not user-configurable beyond user specification of one or more search terms and a network document identifier.

6 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 5 , wherein the search result display is generated in a network document browser and the search engine optimization option is generated by an extension application of the network document browser.

7 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 6 , wherein generating the search result display includes:

adding a plurality of search engine optimization options, each of the plurality of search engine optimization options corresponding to a different one of a plurality of search results.

8 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 5 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

receive a request to generate a search engine score for a search result of the one or more search results; and

generate the visualization of the manner in which the search engine processes the search result of the one or more search results on-demand.

9 . An apparatus comprising:

a processor; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to:

receive input corresponding to a search request for one or more network documents;

receive a list of one or more search results in response to the search request; and

generate a search result display including a search engine optimization option and the list of one or more search results, wherein the search engine optimization option is configured to direct a user to a visualization of a manner in which a search engine processes at least one of the one or more search results, and wherein the manner in which the search engine processes the at least one of the one or more search results is not user-configurable beyond user specification of one or more search terms and a network document identifier.

10 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the search result display is generated in a network document browser and the search engine optimization option is generated by an extension application of the network document browser.

11 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein generating the search result display includes:

adding a plurality of search engine optimization options, each of the plurality of search engine optimization options corresponding to a different one of a plurality of search results.

12 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

receive a request to generate a search engine score for a search result of the one or more search results; and

generate the visualization of the manner in which the search engine processes the search result of the one or more search results on-demand.
