Abstract

The present invention relates to fluoroolefin compositions. The fluoroolefin compositions of the present invention are useful as refrigerants or heat transfer fluids and in processes for producing cooling or heat. Additionally, the fluoroolefin compositions of the present invention may be used to replace currently used refrigerant or heat transfer fluid compositions that have higher global warming potential.

Claims (12)

1. A method for producing heating or cooling in a refrigeration, air-conditioning, or heat pump apparatus, said method comprising introducing a refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition into said apparatus having a centrifugal compressor; wherein said refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition consists of E-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propene or Z-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propene and optionally an additive selected from the group consisting of lubricants, tracers, UV dyes, solubilizing agents, and stabilizers; and wherein said apparatus is used as designed for HFC-134a or HFC-245fa.

2. The method of claim 1 comprising producing cooling by evaporating the refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition in the vicinity of a body to be cooled, and thereafter condensing said composition.

3. The method of claim 1 comprising producing heating by condensing the refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition in the vicinity of a body to be heated and thereafter evaporating said composition.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the centrifugal compressor is a multi-stage centrifugal compressor.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the refrigeration, air-conditioning or heat pump apparatus is designed for using HFC-134a.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition comprises E-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propene.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the refrigeration, air-conditioning or heat pump apparatus is designed for use of HFC-245fa.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition comprises Z-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propene.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein said refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition consists of E-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propene or Z-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propene and an additive selected from the group consisting of lubricants, tracers, UV dyes, solubilizing agents, and stabilizers.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the centrifugal compressor comprises at least 2 stages.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the refrigeration, air-conditioning or heat pump apparatus is a chiller.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the refrigeration, air-conditioning or heat pump apparatus is a heat pump.
