Abstract

A system continuously improves the sensitivity, specificity, precision, and accuracy of treatment ordering templates. A repository of information comprises multiple candidate order sets individually including multiple candidate items for order and associated corresponding related order parameters. An individual item for order is associated with multiple related order parameters. A data entry monitor monitors user selection of candidate items from a candidate order set and records candidate item usage data identifying items selected by a user for order from individual particular candidate order sets for multiple different candidate order sets. A data processor determines from the candidate item usage data at least one of, (a) data indicative of the number or proportion of candidate items of a particular candidate order set that were selected by a user during order entry and (b) data indicative of the number or proportion of candidate items of a particular candidate order set that were not selected by a user during order entry.

Claims (31)

1. A system for use in adaptively updating template candidate order sets, comprising:

a repository of information comprising a plurality of candidate order sets individually including a plurality of candidate items for order and associated corresponding related order parameters, an individual item for order being associated with a plurality of related order parameters;

a data entry monitor for monitoring user selection of candidate items from a candidate order set acquired from said repository and recording candidate item usage data identifying items selected by a user for order from individual particular candidate order sets for a plurality of different candidate order sets; and

a data processor device for determining from the recorded candidate item usage data parameters comprising at least one of, (a) data indicative of the number or proportion of candidate items of a particular candidate order set that were selected by a user during order entry and (b) data indicative of the number or proportion of candidate items of a particular candidate order set that were not selected by a user during order entry, said data processor device automatically identifies, based on the determined parameters, a candidate order set from the plurality of candidate order sets to be updated.

2. A system according to claim 1 , wherein

said data entry monitor monitors orders entered by a user in addition to selecting candidate items from a candidate order set.

3. A system according to claim 1 , wherein

said data processor device determines data indicative of the number or proportion of items ordered by a user that were not in a candidate order set.

4. A system according to claim 1 , wherein

said data indicative of the number or proportion of candidate items of a particular candidate order set that were selected by a user during order entry comprises data indicative of the number or proportion of items ordered by the user that were in a candidate order set.

5. A system according to claim 1 , wherein

said data processor device identifies individual candidate items of said candidate item usage data that were most frequently not selected.

6. A system according to claim 1 , wherein

said data processor device identifies individual candidate items of said candidate item usage data that were most frequently selected.

7. A system according to claim 1 , including

an update processor for automatically generating a message for communication to a user identifying at least one of, (a) candidate items that may be removed from a particular candidate order set and (b) candidate items that may be added to a particular candidate order set.

8. A system according to claim 1 , including

a user interface for presenting in a display image a diagram indicating at least one of, (a) candidate items that may be removed from a particular candidate order set and (b) candidate items that may be added to a particular candidate order set.

9. A system according to claim 8 , wherein said diagram is an ROC chart.

10. A system according to claim 1 , including

an update processor for automatically updating a particular candidate order set by at least one of, (a) removing a candidate item, (b) adding a candidate item and (c) modifying a candidate item.

11. A system according to claim 1 ,

including

an update processor for updating an the identified candidate order set by at least one of, (a) removing a candidate item, (b) adding a candidate item and (c) modifying a candidate item.

12. A system according to claim 1 , wherein

said data processor device identifies the candidate order set is to be updated in response to a weighted Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) derived using the determined parameters.

13. A system according to claim 11 , wherein

said item comprises candidate treatment order parameters and candidate order parameter values.

14. A system according to claim 1 , wherein

said data processor device identifies the candidate order set to be updated in response to statistics derived using the determined parameters.

15. A system according to claim 1 , wherein said statistics comprise sensitivity and new-specificity statistics.
