Television having silos that animate content source searching and selection
View Patent ↗An Intelligent TV can organize content into silos. a silo is a logical representation of a content source for the Intelligent television. Silo can include content applications (e.g., Live TV, VOD, media center, application center, etc.) and/or input sources. The Intelligent TV can receive a designation for a silo through the reception of signals from a remote control or a user interface. Based on the designation, the Intelligent TV can determine the silo desired by the user. Then, the Intelligent TV can transition to the desired silo and provide content from the silo.
1. A method for providing content in an intelligent television, the method comprising:
receiving a designation for a silo, wherein a silo is a logical representation of a content source for the intelligent television, wherein the silo is a content application or an input source, and wherein configuration data is associated with the silo;
based on the designation, determining the silo;
determining whether the silo is the content application or the input source;
if the silo is the input source:
presenting a watermark in a user interface to indicate which silo has been selected; and
activating a device or storage mechanism associated with the input source;
if the silo is the content application, determining whether a preview has been cached for the silo;
if a preview has been cached:
presenting the preview during a silo transition; and
launching the content application;
if a preview has not been cached:
presenting a watermark during a silo transition; and
launching the content application;
providing content from the silo; and
changing to the silo.
2. The method as defined in claim 1 , further comprising:
determining whether there is a signal error with a signal associated with the silo or an error with content associated with the silo;
if there is a signal error, presenting a user interface indicating there is a signal error; and
if there is no a signal error, presenting the content associated with the signal.
3. The method as defined in claim 1 , further comprising:
if the silo is a content application, determining if the silo is in a first time on state;
if the content application is in a first time on state, starting the application in the background;
determining whether the content application is in a first time experience state;
if the content application is not in a first time experience state or if the content application is not in a first time on state, determining if the content application is in an error state;
if the content application is in an error state, presenting a user interface indicating that the content application is in an error state;
if the content application is not in an error state, providing the content application; and
if the content application is in a first time experience state, starting a first time experience process for the content application.
4. The method as defined in claim 3 , wherein the first time experience process comprises:
presenting a first time experience user interface;
receiving a first time experience input; and
configuring the content application in response to the first time experience input.
5. The method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the Intelligent TV includes two or more silos.
6. The method as defined in claim 5 , wherein the two or more silos provide a contextual experience for a user based on an organization of the silos.
7. A non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions stored thereon, wherein when executed by a processor cause the processor to execute a method, the instructions comprising:
instructions to receive a designation for a silo, wherein a silo is a logical representation of a content source for the intelligent television;
based on the designation, instructions to determine the silo;
instructions to determine whether the silo is a content application or an input source;
if the silo is an input source:
instructions to present a watermark in a user interface to indicate which silo has been selected; and
instructions to activate a device or storage mechanism associated with the input source;
if the silo is a content application, instructions to determine whether a preview has been cached for the silo;
if a preview has been cached:
instructions to present the preview in during a silo transition; and
instructions to launch the content application;
if a preview has not been cached:
instructions to present a watermark in during a silo transition; and
instructions to launch the content application;
instructions to provide content from the silo; and
instructions to change to the silo.
8. The tangible computer readable medium as defined in claim 7 , further comprising:
instructions to determine whether there is a signal error with a signal associated with the silo or an error with content associated with the silo;
if there is a signal error, instructions to present a user interface indicating there is a signal error; and
if there is no a signal error, instructions to present the content associated with the signal.
9. The tangible computer readable medium as defined in claim 7 , further comprising:
if the silo is a content application, instructions to determine if the silo is in a first time on state;
if the content application is in a first time on state, instructions to start the application in the background;
instructions to determine whether the content application is in a first time experience state;
if the content application is not in a first time experience state or if the content application is not in a first time on state, instructions to determine if the content application is in an error state;
if the content application is in an error state, instructions to present a user interface indicating that the content application is in an error state;
if the content application is not in an error state, instructions to provide the content application; and
if the content application is in a first time experience state, instructions to start a first time experience process for the content application, wherein the first time experience process comprises:
instructions to present a first time experience user interface;
instructions to receive a first time experience input; and
instructions to configure the content application in response to the first time experience input.
10. An intelligent television comprising:
a display;
a memory;
a processor in communication with the memory and the display, the processor operable to:
receive a designation for a silo, wherein a silo is a logical representation of a content source for the intelligent television;
based on the designation, determine the silo;
determine whether the silo is a content application or an input source;
if the silo is an input source:
present a watermark in a user interface to indicate which silo has been selected;
activate a device or storage mechanism associated with the input source;
if the silo is a content application, determine whether a preview has been cached for the silo;
if a preview has been cached:
present the preview in during a silo transition;
launch the content application;
if a preview has not been cached:
present a watermark in during a silo transition; and
launch the content application;
provide content from the silo; and
change to the silo.
11. The intelligent television as defined in claim 10 , wherein the processor is further operable to:
determine whether there is a signal error with a signal associated with the silo or an error with content associated with the silo;
if there is a signal error, present a user interface indicating there is a signal error; and
if there is no a signal error, present the content associated with the signal.
12. The intelligent television as defined in claim 11 , wherein the processor is further operable to:
if the silo is a content application, determine if the silo is in a first time on state;
if the content application is in a first time on state, start the application in the background;
determine whether the content application is in a first time experience state;
if the content application is not in a first time experience state or if the content application is not in a first time on state, determine if the content application is in an error state;
if the content application is in an error state, present a user interface indicating that the content application is in an error state;
if the content application is not in an error state, provide the content application; and
if the content application is in a first time experience state, start a first time experience process for the content application, wherein the first time experience process comprises:
present a first time experience user interface;
receive a first time experience input; and
configure the content application in response to the first time experience input.
