Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for interfacing SMS/MMS web applications with packet-switched networks. One embodiment comprises a system that handles a Mobile Terminated (MT) text message from a web application to a packet-switched network. The system receives a send command for the MT text message from the web application. The send command is based on a standard used by the web application, such as Parlay X. The system converts the send command for the MT text message to a SIP send request, and transmits the SIP send request for the MT text message to a packet-switched network for delivery to a recipient.

Claims (24)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, in a conversion system, a send command for a Mobile Terminated (MT) text message from a web application that is coupled to a packet-switched network through the conversion system, wherein the send command is based on a standard used by the web application;

converting, in the conversion system, the send command for the MT text message to a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) send request for the MT text message; and

transmitting the SIP send request for the MT text message from the conversion system to the packet-switched network.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the send command from the web application is based on a Parlay X standard.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the SIP send request for the MT text message comprises a SIP MESSAGE that encapsulates the MT text message.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the MT text message comprises a Short Messaging Service (SMS) message.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the MT text message comprises a Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) message.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving a SIP status message from the packet-switched network indicating a delivery status for at least one of the SIP send request and the MT text message;

converting the SIP status message to a status command in the standard used by the web application; and

transmitting the status command to the web application.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving a SIP send request for a Mobile Originated (MO) text message from the packet-switched network in the conversion system;

converting, in the conversion system, the SIP send request for the MO text message to a receive command for the MO text message, wherein the receive command for the MO text message is based on the standard used by the web application; and

transmitting the receive command for the MO text message from the conversion system to the web application.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising:

receiving a status command from the web application indicating a delivery status for the MO text message;

converting the status command to a SIP status message; and

transmitting the SIP status message to the packet-switched network.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the packet-switched network comprises an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network or a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network.
