A composition for reconstruction, replacement or repair of damaged or diseased biological tissue comprising an extracellular matrix (ECM) composition that includes an ECM scaffold component derived from a mammalian source and at least one additional bioactive component selected from the group consisting of a statin and a chitin derivative.
1 . An injectable composition for treating damaged cardiovascular tissue, comprising:
an extracellular matrix (ECM) component and a supplemental drug component, said ECM component comprising mammalian tissue, said drug component comprising an antibiotic, said mammalian tissue comprising decellularized cardiac tissue.
2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein said antibiotic is selected from the group consisting of aminoglycosides, cephalosporins, chloramphenicol, clindamycin, erythromycins, fluoroquinolones, macrolides, azolides, metronidazole, penicillins, tetracyclines, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and vancomycin.
