Abstract

Some embodiments in the present disclosure generally relate to fluorescent structures such as fluorescent glass, fluorescent substrates, and/or light emitting devices, which can include a gradient of fluorescent molecules across the structure, substrate, and/or light emitting device. In some embodiments, the fluorescent glass, fluorescent substrates, and/or light emitting devices can be porous and include at least one fluorescent molecule within the one or more pore. In some embodiments, this can allow for the creation of a gradient fluorescent material throughout the material.

Claims (19)

1. A light-emitting apparatus comprising:

at least one light source; and

a fluorescent silica glass, wherein the fluorescent silica glass comprises:

silica;

at least a first pore within the silica and a second pore within the silica; and

at least a first type of fluorescent molecule within the first pore and at least two or more types of second fluorescent molecules within the second pore.

2. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first type of fluorescent molecules is a different type of fluorescent molecules from the second fluorescent molecule.

3. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the light source and the fluorescent silica glass are components of a diode or a cold cathode fluorescent lamp.

4. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein: the first type of fluorescent molecule absorbs radiation at a first wavelength of light, the second fluorescent molecule absorb radiation at a second wavelength of light, and the first wavelength and the second wavelength are different.

5. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the first type of fluorescent molecule emits radiation at a first wavelength of light, the second fluorescent molecules emits radiation at a second wavelength of light, and the first wavelength and the second wavelength are different.

6. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the first type of fluorescent molecule comprises a fluorescent element.

7. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the fluorescent element comprises at least a transition metal element or a rare earth element.

8. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein a number of types of fluorescent molecules present within the first pore is different from a number of types of fluorescent molecules present within the second pore.

9. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the first pore is located at a first location in the fluorescent silica glass and wherein the second pore is located at a second location in the fluorescent silica glass.

10. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 9 , further comprising a concentration gradient of fluorescent molecules from the first location to the second location.

11. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the concentration gradient is approximately linear.

12. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first location is at a first surface of the fluorescent silica glass, and wherein the second location is closer to the light source, relative to the first surface.

13. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first location and the second location are at a first surface of the fluorescent silica glass.

14. The light-emitting apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the first location at least partially surrounds the second location.
