Abstract

A method and system of selecting assets for display in an interactive media guidance application includes receiving a user input indicating interest in a media item; generating a list of media assets related to the media item, selecting, based on priority rules, a subset of the media assets to display in an interactive media guidance application, and displaying an identifier for each of the subset of media assets in the interactive media guidance application screen. The priority rules may assign a first priority to one type of media asset and a second priority to a second type of media asset, and may be based on: whether the media asset has been viewed, and a respective time associated with the media asset.

Claims (38)

1 - 36 . (canceled)

37 . A method of selecting assets for display in an interactive media guidance application, the method comprising:

generating a list of non-linear media assets;

retrieving, from storage, for each of the non-linear media assets in the list, an indication of at least one of whether the media asset has been viewed by a user and a respective time associated with the media asset;

prioritizing the list of the non-linear media assets based on the retrieved indication; and

generating for display identifiers for each of the non-linear media assets in the list arranged according to the prioritized list.

38 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the list of non-linear media assets is generated based on receiving a user input indicating an interest in a media item.

39 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the list of non-linear media assets is generated based on available area in the interactive media guidance application screen.

40 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the non-linear media assets includes at least one of recordings, recent associated content, on demand content, episode catch-up, next new episode, viewed content, photographs, music content, games, next game, missed games, extra scenes, interactive portals, shopping, music videos, music files, news, biographical information, and sports statistics.

41 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the indication indicates whether the media asset has been viewed by the user and the respective time associated with the media asset.

42 . The method of claim 41 further comprising:

determining, based on the prioritizing, a subset of the media assets in the list to display in the interactive media guidance application; and

generating for display the identifiers for each of the subset of media assets in the interactive media guidance application screen.

43 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the respective time associated with the media asset includes at least one of a broadcast time, available time, and viewing time.

44 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the prioritizing comprises assigning, without user input, a first priority to a first non-linear media asset and a second priority to a second non-linear media asset.

45 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the identifiers include at least one of a program title, genre, category, type of non-linear media asset, program series, available related content, an occurrence of a next new content, new recordings, and episode catch-up.

46 . The method of claim 37 further comprising:

determining a subset of the media assets, based on the prioritizing, that are not included in a subscription service; and

packaging the subset of the media assets for upselling.

47 . A system of selecting assets for display in an interactive media guidance application, the system comprising:

control circuitry configured to:

generate a list of non-linear media assets;

retrieve, from storage, for each of the non-linear media assets in the list, an indication of at least one of whether the media asset has been viewed by a user and a respective time associated with the media asset;

prioritize the list of the non-linear media assets based on the retrieved indication; and

generate for display identifiers for each of the non-linear media assets in the list arranged according to the prioritized list.

48 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the list of non-linear media assets is generated based on receiving a user input indicating an interest in a media item.

49 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the list of non-linear media assets is generated based on available area in the interactive media guidance application screen.

50 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the non-linear media assets includes at least one of recordings, recent associated content, on demand content, episode catch-up, next new episode, viewed content, photographs, music content, games, next game, missed games, extra scenes, interactive portals, shopping, music videos, music files, news, biographical information, and sports statistics.

51 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the indication indicates whether the media asset has been viewed by the user and the respective time associated with the media asset.

52 . The system of claim 51 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

determine, based on the prioritize, a subset of the media assets in the list to display in the interactive media guidance application; and

generate for display the identifiers for each of the subset of media assets in the interactive media guidance application screen.

53 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the respective time associated with the media asset includes at least one of a broadcast time, available time, and viewing time.

54 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the control circuitry further configured to prioritize assigns, without user input, a first priority to a first non-linear media asset and a second priority to a second non-linear media asset.

55 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the identifiers include at least one of a program title, genre, category, type of non-linear media asset, program series, available related content, an occurrence of a next new content, new recordings, and episode catch-up.

56 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

determine a subset of the media assets, based on the prioritize, that are not included in a subscription service; and

package the subset of the media assets for upselling.
